As a State and Local Income Tax Compliance Manager, you will play a key role in supporting our Tax practice by managing and executing state and local income tax compliance engagements. You will leverage your technical expertise in multistate tax compliance to prepare and review complex tax filings, provide guidance on state tax matters, and ensure accurate and timely delivery of client work. This role will collaborate closely with U.S.-based Tax professionals and contribute to the continued growth and success of our India Tax team.
Requirements
- Manage and oversee the preparation and review of multistate income tax compliance engagements.
- Prepare and review state income tax returns, including Forms 1120, 1120S, and 1065.
- Prepare and review state composite and Pass-Through Entity (PTE) tax returns.
- Support state individual income tax compliance, including Form 1040 filings.
- Research state and local tax matters and apply applicable regulations to client engagements.
- Review work for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with firm standards.
- Collaborate with team members across India and the U.S. to meet engagement deadlines and client expectations.
- Provide mentorship, guidance, and support to team members as needed.
What Skills You’ll Bring:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in state and local income tax compliance.
- Strong experience preparing and reviewing multistate tax returns.
- Proficiency/knowledge of state apportionment methodology – gross receipts sourcing; aggregate apportionment for pass-through entities.
- Experience with Forms 1120, 1120S, and 1065, including related state filings.
- Experience with state composite and Pass-Through Entity (PTE) tax returns.
- Working knowledge of state individual income tax compliance (Form 1040).
- Hands-on experience with tax compliance software, including GoSystem, Axcess, or ProSystem.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
- Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with teams across different locations.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple client deliverables and deadlines.
How You'll Stand Out:
- Demonstrated ability to independently manage state and local tax compliance engagements from preparation through completion.
- Ability to quickly demonstrate proficiency in multistate tax inputs and processes within tax compliance software.
- Experience supporting U.S.-based tax teams within a global delivery model.
- Experience reviewing work, providing feedback, and developing less experienced team members.
- Strong technical knowledge of state and local income tax regulations.
- Ability to quickly adapt to firm processes, engagement workflows, and client service expectations.
- CPA, Chartered Accountant, or other relevant tax certification preferred.
- Consistently delivers high-quality work while meeting engagement deadlines and contributing to team efficiency.
