About this Marketing Manager role at ROAD iD
The short version
We're hiring a Marketing Manager to own the marketing engine for ROAD iD, our flagship brand. You'll run the promo calendar, buy media on Meta, hold our Google agency accountable, manage our pro cyclist ambassadors, own email and SMS, and our limited edition product roadmap. That's a lot of trust for one seat, and we know it. We don't expect you to arrive knowing all of it. We expect you to arrive hungry, and we'll teach you the rest.
If you're early in your career and tired of job postings that demand five years of experience for entry-level pay, keep reading. This one's different on purpose.
About ROAD iD
Twenty-five years ago, our founders Edward and Mike (a son and dad team) started ROAD iD in a basement with two credit cards and a fax machine. Today, ROAD iD is the leading brand of athletic identification, trusted by millions of runners, cyclists, and adventurers. Our products have saved lives. Actually saved lives. Not "increased engagement" or "drove synergies." Saved. Lives.
That's the brand you'd be marketing.
The role
You'll be the dedicated Marketing Manager for ROAD iD, reporting to our Head of Marketing. No direct reports; this is a doer's seat. You'll be supported by two shared teams: our eComm Team (site content, conversion rate optimization, friction fighting) and our Creative Team (on-brand assets, delivered through our Creative Supply Chain). You bring the plan and the execution; they assist with the horsepower.
Your accountabilities:
- The Promo Calendar. You own the ROAD iD promotional calendar: what we promote, when, and why. You'll orchestrate the moments that drive our year.
- Meta Media Buying. You'll run the ROAD iD Meta ad account, hands on keyboard. We believe Meta is the tip of the spear for our brands' growth, so yes, we're trusting you with the spear. You'll be trained by our Head of Marketing and we meet weekly with a dedicated Meta coach. You bring the curiosity; we'll bring the reps.
- Google Agency Liaison. Our Google Ads program is run by an agency. Your job is to be their point of contact, keep them fed with what they need, and hold them accountable to the numbers.
- Brand Partnerships. You'll manage our ambassador program of professional cyclists, and you'll collaborate with the Head of Marketing on new and existing partnership opportunities.
- Email & SMS. You'll own the ROAD iD email and SMS program: campaigns, flows, audience segmentation, and testing. And here's the twist: our emails come from Edward, our founder. You won't be writing as a brand; you'll be learning to write as a person. It's harder. It's also why our emails get read.
- Organic Social. We keep this intentionally limited (we'd rather be great at a few channels than mediocre at many), but what we do post, you'll own.
What you'll learn here
This role is a career accelerator. Within your first year you'll have hands-on-keyboard experience buying Meta media on a real account with a real budget. You will have managed an agency relationship, run an email program end to end, and have worked directly with a founder who's been building DTC brands for 25 years. People pay for courses that teach less than this seat will.
And one more thing: Road ID Brands is over 25 years old, and the marketing team you'd join has over 75 combined years of eCommerce experience. People stay because the company grows and their seats grow with them. As ROAD iD grows, this seat grows: bigger budgets, bigger swings, bigger responsibilities, bigger compensation. Our objective is that the person we hire this year is running something much larger five years from now. Come learn, then stay and build something you can be proud of.
Who we are
Road ID Brands is an over 25 year old, founder-led company headquartered in Covington, KY. We run on an Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS). Our Cornerstone is Purpose Over Profit. Our Core Values are Be Remark-able, Fanatically Personal, Care Deeply, Ear to the Ground/Eye to the Sky, and Cheerfully Serious. If those read like corporate wallpaper to you, we'll both be happier if you keep scrolling. If they read like a dare, let's talk.
Where you'll work
In-house in our fun, urban Covington, KY office (5 min from downtown Cincinnati, OH). Because this role comes with real training and mentorship, in-person is how it works best. It's where the team is, where the whiteboards are, and where proximity is a cheat code.
Requirements
Who you are
- Hungry and energized. You're a "get to" person, not a "have to" person. You want ownership early in your career and you understand that ownership means the numbers have your name on them.
- An over-achiever. You've probably been accused of this. The group project where you cared "too much." The class where doing the minimum was never an option. When your name is on something, it's good, because you couldn't stand for it to be otherwise.
- A voracious learner. Maybe you already listen to a DTC (Direct to Consumer) podcast or two. Maybe you follow a few operators or marketing experts on X. Or maybe you just can't encounter a system without wanting to know how it works. Either way, you learn because you can't help it, not because someone assigned it.
- Analytical AND creative. You can read a dashboard and write a compelling subject line. You'll do both before lunch, most days.
- AI-curious, at minimum. We're an AI-forward marketing organization. You don't need to have built anything fancy yet, but you should be the kind of person who reaches for AI tools instinctively and wonders what else they could do.
- A strong communicator. Much of this job is words: emails, SMS, promo copy, briefs. AI can draft. What it can't do is tell you whether the draft sounds like a person or a press release. Our promo emails come from people (often our founder), and your job is making sure they sound human. That takes taste and the stubbornness to edit until it's right. If you've ever rewritten a text message four times because the tone was off, you have the gene.
- A genuinely good human. Everything above this line can be taught or trained. This one can't. Our Core Values include Care Deeply and Fanatically Personal, and these come to life through our customer journey and how we treat one another, not as posters in the breakroom. We're looking for someone who is kind when it's inconvenient, honest when it's uncomfortable, and quick to hand credit to others. If your references smile when your name comes up, we'll probably get along.
Who you are NOT
- A Finished Product. If you've spent a decade mastering another company's way of doing things, this seat will frustrate you and you'll frustrate us. We're deliberately hiring someone who is excited to learn how we approach eCommerce marketing. Wet cement, not set concrete.
- A Channel Renter. You don't want to spend all day on just one channel. You want to understand how all channels connect so you can better leverage each one.
- A Waiter. Not the restaurant kind (we respect the restaurant kind). The kind who waits to be told what to do next.
- A Slow-Roller. Not a bowling reference. This is a person who is slow to act and slower to decide. We move fast around here. We have a bias toward now, not "someday."
Benefits
- A unique opportunity to make a difference. At ROAD iD, we don't make and sell widgets. Instead, we take pride in providing a product that literally saves lives.
- Competitive Health Care Plan (3 Medical plan options available, along with Dental & Vision).
- Life Insurance (Basic, Accident, and AD&D).
- Competitive PTO based on years of service.
- Short Term & Long Term Disability Insurance Plans.
- Competitive 401K program with company match and full vesting by your first work anniversary.
- Annual Wellness/Fitness reimbursements of up to $400 each calendar year towards your physical, mental, or financial wellbeing.
- $200 team member purchase allowance annually.
- $50 charitable donation to your favorite charity or to offset the adoption fees of a shelter pet.
- Professional Development Opportunities, including tuition discounts through UC Online.
- 9 paid holidays per year
- Team member discount programs through My Path Perks Discount Marketplace, VIU, and WesBanco
- A fun and rewarding work culture of collaboration, and flexibility (including reduced Summer Hours) for work/life balance
- Compensation depends on your experience. We're interested in both green-and-hungry and lightly-seasoned-and-hungry candidates. If you bring a few years of reps, compensation will scale accordingly.
