The Opportunity
This is a rare opportunity to build and lead a newly elevated Cyber Security function at Netwealth.
Reporting directly to the CTO, you'll take ownership of our cyber security strategy and security posture end-to-end, spanning Security Operations, Application Security, AI Security Governance and our obligations under APRA CPS 234.
The team has built a strong foundation and the opportunity now is to broaden the remit from a traditional security operations focus to a modern, secure-by-design capability that enables the business to scale safely and confidently.
This is not a governance-heavy cyber role.
We're looking for a leader who can build security into systems, platforms and software delivery from the start. Someone who believes the secure path should be the easiest path, and who can embed guardrails, automation and secure defaults into the way engineers work every day.
You'll lead a high-performing team of approximately 20 people while helping shape how Netwealth responds to a rapidly changing threat landscape, including emerging technologies, AI adoption and evolving regulatory expectations.
In this role, you will:
Lead and grow Netwealth's Cyber Security function as a standalone capability
Own security operations, application security, AI security governance and security strategy
Drive a secure-by-design approach across software development and technology delivery
Build automated guardrails and security controls into platforms, pipelines and engineering workflows
Ensure Netwealth continues to meet its APRA CPS 234 obligations while strengthening overall security maturity
Develop Netwealth's approach to securing AI and emerging technologies
Partner with Product, Engineering, Platform & Reliability, Risk and executive stakeholders to make security an enabler of the business, not a blocker
About you
You're a cyber security leader with strong engineering roots.
You've built and operated security capabilities inside modern technology organisations and understand how to scale security through automation, secure architecture and great engineering practices, not simply through policy, governance and headcount.
You're equally comfortable discussing threat modelling, application security and DevSecOps with engineers as you are presenting security strategy and risk posture to executive and board audiences.
Importantly, you're an enabler. You see risks early, but you also know how to solve for them. You can balance security, usability and business outcomes, helping teams move quickly without compromising trust.
You'll bring:
Experience leading a cyber security function within a regulated or high-trust environment
Strong security engineering fundamentals and hands-on technical depth
Expertise across security operations, application security, cloud security and DevSecOps
Experience embedding security into software delivery, CI/CD pipelines and engineering practices
A strong understanding of security risk, assurance and regulatory requirements including APRA CPS 234
Knowledge of AI security risks, controls and governance frameworks
A track record of building capability through automation, influence and coaching rather than simply growing teams
Strong communication skills and the ability to influence from engineers through to executives and boards
This is an opportunity to shape the future of cyber security at Netwealth, building a function that protects our customers, enables innovation and helps the business confidently navigate the next generation of technology.
