Duties & Role:
AI Solutions Requirements Engineer for AI Opportunities & Solutions Cell for space based Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) and Related Intelligence Capability Programme Plans (CPPs).
Requirements engineering and AI opportunity analysis:
- Conduct horizon scanning, customer surveys, and review existing requirements for potential alignment and optimisation
- Collaborate with stakeholders and end users to understand requirements for advanced analytics and AI tools.
- Analyse near- and long-term AI opportunities with clear operational value for space-based ISR workflows.
- Recommend methods to strengthen data collection and management to enhance space-based intelligence workflows
- Advise on integrating AI solutions into programs such as Intelligence CPPs, APSS, SINBAD, and other related initiatives.
- Perform a review of emerging AI technologies and recommend applications for NATO's ISR capabilities
Specific Working Conditions: The Contractors shall provide services primarily on site in Mons, BE. Offsite work may be authorized when necessary to support service delivery, provided it is coordinated with and approved by the line manager, and takes place within a NATO member nation.
The Contractor's personnel shall support the Purchaser during normal working hours, Monday to Friday, 08:30–17:30 (CET), excluding recognized holidays.
The Contractor's personnel shall have access to the necessary NCIA IT systems and must comply with all applicable NCIA policies, security requirements, and procedural guidelines.
Travel may be required to NCIA The Hague, Brussels, NATO Commands, or other NATO locations, with up to nine trips per contractor outside Belgium. Visits for meetings at NCIA Brussels are expected on a regular basis (up to 4 times a month).
Requirements
Skills, Knowledge & Experience:
- The candidate must have a currently active NATO SECRET security clearance
- A nationally recognized or certified university degree in computer science, system engineering, or a related field.
- Exceptionally, candidates without a university degree may qualify if they possess significant expertise (minimum 3 years) relevant to the role and duties.
- 5+ years requirements/systems engineering for complex systems in defence or industry
- At least 2 years' experience in writing AI-related requirement documents.
- Proven delivery in secure or regulated environments; collaboration with multi-stakeholder, multinational teams.
- Experience aligning solutions with programmes.
- In depth understanding of AI workflows and systems integration of analytical tools.
- Applied understanding of image-based AI (computer vision) to elicit and specify testable requirements.
- Proven ability to facilitate ideation/workshops, prototype concepts, and convert ambiguous needs into clear, testable requirements and actionable roadmaps.
- Ability to translate complex technical concepts into operational requirements for non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong project coordination and organization, including timeline and priority management.
