About Plane

Plane’s mission is to build the infrastructure the world’s work runs on. We want teams to move faster without losing context, and organizations to retain the flexibility and control they need. Our team is building that work infrastructure as an open, adaptable platform for projects, knowledge, and requests—simple enough for any team to adopt and dependable enough for organizations to build on.

Plane began in public on [GitHub](https://github.com/makeplane/plane) at the end of 2022. Since then, it has grown from an open-source project into a work management platform used by teams around the world. Organizations can use Plane as a managed Cloud service, run it on their own infrastructure, or deploy it inside fully isolated environments. Building in the open keeps us close to users and raises the standard for what we ship.

We believe the future of work will be shaped by people and agents working together. That makes shared context, explicit state, durable history, and accountable action more important—not less. Plane exists to make that future useful, legible, and within the organization's control.

Plane is backed by OSS Capital and built across San Francisco and Hyderabad. About the Role

This role is integral to developing and optimizing the core systems that power high-impact, user-centric features across our platform. The Senior Backend Engineer will leverage modern technologies such as Python, event-driven streaming and change-data-capture for real-time data synchronization, and advanced caching to reduce latency and load, boosting performance and system reliability. Collaboration, innovation, and a commitment to sharing meaningful solutions with the open-source community are key aspects of success in this position. Candidates will drive architectural upgrades, foster excellence in observability and monitoring, and set industry benchmarks for backend development.

• Boost database and system performance through advanced caching techniques and connection pooling.

Skills You Will Need to Bring

• Proficient in programming, with extensive experience working across the full stack.

• Expertise in Python with a strong ability to navigate the full stack environment.

• A self-starter attitude, with a commitment to taking responsibility for tasks.

• Demonstrated success in similar roles.

• Ability to adapt to scale engineering and strong understanding on deployment strategies.

• A dedication to delivering high-quality products.

• A minimum of 5 years of proven experience in developing high-quality backend systems.

• Familiarity with GraphQL will be considered a strong plus.

Tech

• Django/Python, Golang, NodeJS, Postgres, and Redis in the backend.

• Hosted on AWS Cloud with k8s and Rancher.

• Experienced working in message queues and scheduling using RabbitMQ or Kafka.

• Monitored with DataDog and Sentry.
