Internship type: Year-round intern (1,000 hours max, January 2027–December 2027)

OCC operates under a Hybrid Work Program which, absent an approved exception, requires employees to work from an OCC office at least 3 days per week. To maximize in–person collaboration, Tuesday and Wednesday are considered anchor days, and all employees are expected to work in the office both days. Employees meeting performance expectations are generally permitted to select 2 other days per week to work remotely if desired. When working remotely, employees are generally expected to work from the state in which they reside, absent an exception approved by Human Resources. Additionally, OCC generally does not permit employees to work while traveling internationally.

OCC's Year-Round Internship Program is a 12-month opportunity running from January through December and is open to both undergraduate and graduate students who are actively enrolled at a college or university. Interns work up to 20 hours per week during the school year and up to 40 hours per week during the summer, subject to a 1,000-hour cap. The role is based in a hybrid work environment, and overtime is not permitted.

The Automation Testing Framework engineering team sits within OCC's Engineering Shared Services department. The team builds and maintains the automation testing infrastructure that supports OCC's critical risk technology systems. The team works closely with testing, development, and DevOps functions in an Agile environment, contributing to framework enhancements, CI/CD automation, and secure software delivery practices. As an intern, the you will gain hands-on experience with real production systems, working alongside experienced engineers who will provide mentorship and guidance throughout the internship.

As an Intern, you will join OCC's Automation Testing Framework engineering team to gain hands-on experience supporting the development and maintenance of critical risk technology systems, while learning from experienced engineers in a real-world production environment. Responsibilities include:

• Writing clean Java code under the guidance of senior team members, with support in debugging and testing.

• Learning and contributing to automation testing framework features.

• Participating in code reviews to learn best practices.

• Gaining exposure to secure software delivery practices using tools such as SonarQube, Snyk, Sysdig, Veracode, and Black Duck.

• Gaining exposure to CI/CD automation using Jenkins and containerization concepts with Docker, Harness, and Rancher.

• Assisting testing teams with basic troubleshooting of automation testing framework issues.

• Participating in design discussions and proof of concept efforts as a learning opportunity.

• Being a team player and communicating effectively in an agile environment.

Rising senior or second-year graduate student, graduating December 2027 or May/August 2028.

Desired Majors

• BS or MS in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field (e.g., Computer Engineering, Information Systems, Management Information Systems).

Technical Skills/Experience Desired

• Foundational Java programming skills including basic object-oriented design; exposure to concurrency concepts and Spring Boot through coursework or personal projects is a plus.

• Basic familiarity with Kafka concepts such as producers, consumers, and topics is a plus; interest in learning message serialization formats such as Protobuf or Avro, and schema governance patterns, is welcomed.

• Familiarity with or interest in AWS services, especially S3, through coursework or self-study.

• Ability to write basic SQL queries for relational database systems such as PostgreSQL.

• Basic familiarity with Git version control workflows including branching and pull requests; willingness to learn code review practices and CI/CD tooling such as Jenkins or similar pipeline orchestration platforms.

• Practical curiosity about AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code, with openness to using them for code generation, refactoring, unit tests, and documentation under guidance in a disciplined engineering environment.

Additional Qualifications

• Foundational understanding of OOP, microservices, and REST APIs.

• Willingness to learn Agile delivery models, including sprint planning, code reviews, backlog refinement, and cross-team communication.

• Strong intellectual curiosity and eagerness to learn; ability to absorb new concepts quickly with guidance.

• Strong communication skills and ability to work well with technical and non-technical professionals.

Compensation

• The salary range listed for any given position is exclusive of fringe benefits and potential bonuses. If hired at OCC, your final base salary compensation will be determined by factors such as skills, experience and/or education.
• In addition, we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity of our current team members as part of any final offer.
• We typically do not hire at the maximum of the range in order to allow for future and continued salary growth. We also offer a substantial benefits package as noted on www.theocc.com/careers
• All employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus. Discretionary bonuses are based on various factors, including, but not limited to, company and individual performance and are not guaranteed.
