Job Description:
Summary
Assist the Project Manager with the planning, coordination, execution, and financial oversight of heavy civil construction projects, including highways, bridges, drainage, earthwork, and related infrastructure. Supports project operations by coordinating project teams, subcontractors, suppliers, schedules, budgets, and contract requirements to help ensure projects are completed safely, on time, within budget, and in accordance with quality standards.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Project Manager with the day-to-day management and administration of heavy civil construction project.
- Support project planning efforts, including schedule development, procurement activities, submittals, and project startup requirements.
- Coordinate with owners, engineers, subcontractors, vendors, inspectors, and field operations teams.
- Assist with the preparation and management of project budgets, cost reports, forecasts, change orders, and monthly pay estimates.
- Monitor project progress, quantities, production, and costs, and identify potential risks, delays, and financial impacts.
- Review contracts, plans, specifications, shop drawings, and project documentation to support compliance with project requirements.
- Assist with subcontractor and supplier procurement, contract administration, and performance management.
- Support the preparation and tracking of Requests for Information (RFIs), submittals, permits, material deliveries, and project correspondence.
- Participate in project meetings and maintain accurate records, meeting minutes, action items, daily reports, and project documentation.
- Collaborate with Superintendents, Project Engineers, and field personnel to coordinate work and ensure activities are performed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with quality standards.
- Assist with project billing, pay applications, quantity tracking, and collection activities.
- Promote and support company safety initiatives and ensure compliance with all applicable safety regulations and project-specific safety programs.
- Identify opportunities for operational improvements, process efficiencies, schedule recovery, and cost savings.
- Manage assigned project issues and risks through timely communication, documentation, and problem resolution.
- Safety comes first! Required to complete work in a safe, efficient, and accurate manner.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, construction management, engineering technology, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 2-5 years of construction project management experience, preferably in highway, bridge, roadway, drainage, earthwork, or other heavy civil construction.
- Understanding of heavy civil construction methods, contracts, specifications, scheduling, cost control, and quantity tracking principles.
- Experience working with project management, cost control, and scheduling software; familiarity with Primavera P6 preferred.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record required.
Work Conditions/Physical Demands
- Regularly required to sit for extended periods while performing administrative and project management responsibilities.
- Frequent visits to active heavy civil construction sites require the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Exposure to outdoor weather conditions includes heat, cold, rain, dust, mud, noise, and moving traffic.
- Occasional exposure to excavations, elevated work areas, marine or bridge operations, and heavy construction equipment.
- Noise levels may vary from moderate in office settings to high in active construction environments.
