Experience Aviva

Together, we are Aviva.

Our values of Care, Commitment, Community, and Confidence shape a culture of inclusion, collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.

The Opportunity

The Vice President, Enterprise Transformation is a senior leader at the heart of Aviva Canada’s transformation agenda, accountable for delivering strategic initiatives that shape how we evolve, grow, and serve customers.

Reporting to the SVP, Transformation, this leader will set the standard for delivery excellence, providing direction, performance discipline, and hands-on leadership across Aviva’s change portfolio.

The VP will lead the Change Practice and Transformation Business Partnering teams, building capability, strengthening stakeholder alignment, and embedding a culture of pace, quality, and ownership.

They will oversee the enterprise change portfolio, with accountability for prioritization, delivery performance, budget stewardship, business case integrity, portfolio affordability, investment sequencing, and benefits realization. Working closely with Finance and senior sponsors, they will embed performance management rigor through clear baselines, forecasts, milestones, benefit owners, transparent reporting, and disciplined intervention when initiatives are off track.

What you'll do

In this role, you will be accountable for the following:

  • Lead the Change Practice and Business Partnering teams, including performance, capability building, stakeholder alignment, change readiness, and delivery support.

  • Chair the Change Investment Steer Co, driving prioritization, funding decisions, affordability, capital trade-offs, and investment sequencing across a $100–200 M enterprise change portfolio.

  • Spearhead portfolio performance management, including financials, resources, delivery health, risk exposure, milestones, benefits forecast vs. actuals, and dependency tracking to enable fact-based governance, early escalation, and course correction.

  • Establish consistent portfolio routines, scorecards, thresholds, and recovery plans so performance issues are visible, owned, and resolved before they impact strategic outcomes

  • Drive disciplined business cases and value assurance, partnering with Finance and sponsors to validate assumptions and hold benefit owners accountable for delivery.

  • Provide executive-level reporting that clarifies progress, risks, trade-offs, outcomes, and competing priorities for C-suite stakeholders.

  • Navigate complex stakeholder environments, resolving friction, influencing without authority, and creating clarity through ambiguity.

  • Steward vendor relationships for contract and flexible resource pools — negotiating capacity, SLAs and performance metrics to maintain scalable delivery capability.

  • Lead the annual Roadmap Refresh, translating enterprise strategy and external market insight into a prioritized three-year change plan.

  • Enforce governance, risk, and issue-management standards while balancing pace with control, compliance, and operational resilience in a regulated environment.

  • Set delivery standards, coach talent, embed best practices, and build succession depth across the transformation function.

What you'll bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g. business, technology, project management) or equivalent experience

  • Professional certification in project, program, or change management (e.g. PMP, MSP, PRINCE2, Prosci) preferred

  • Accounting designation preferred, with CPA or equivalent financial qualification considered an asset.

  • Significant leadership experience driving large-scale transformation, modernization, and organizational change initiatives.

  • Strategic Portfolio Leadership: Proven ability to lead large transformation portfolios, prioritize investments, manage funding trade-offs, and deliver measurable enterprise outcomes.

  • Executive Influence: Skilled at translating complex data, risks, and trade-offs into clear decisions for C-suite stakeholders and governance forums.

  • Performance Management Rigor: Expertise in dashboards, scorecards, baselines, thresholds, delivery health, financials, resources, forecasting, dependency tracking, benefits realization, and translating insight into executive action.

  • Financial Stewardship & Benefits Discipline: Strong capability in business cases, affordability, Finance validation, benefit ownership, and value realization.

  • Governance, Risk & Regulatory Acumen: Experience leading transformation with strong controls, issue management, compliance awareness, and operational resilience.

  • Change Practice Leadership: Track record building delivery and business analysis capability, setting standards, coaching talent, and strengthening succession pipelines.

  • Business Partnering: Ability to align stakeholders, assess readiness, and enable adoption across business units and functions.

  • Vendor & Resource Management: Skilled in negotiating contracts, SLAs and performance metrics with third-party providers to maintain scalable and flexible delivery capacity.

  • Talent Development & Succession Planning: Strong people-leadership skills, identifying high potentials, crafting development pathways, and mentoring future leaders at scale

  • Roadmap & Change Strategy: Experience driving annual roadmap refresh processes, translating enterprise strategy into a coherent three-year change plan with measurable outcomes.

  • External Perspective: Brings industry trends, benchmarks, emerging practices, and technology-enabled change into enterprise prioritization.

  •  Leadership Style: Decisive, commercial, resilient, collaborative, and trusted at executive level; able to inspire pace, quality, and ownership.

What you'll get

  • Competitive executive compensation package, including annual incentive opportunities.

  • Comprehensive pension and retirement savings programs.

  • Flexible hybrid work model.

  • Industry-leading health and wellness benefits.

  • Professional development and executive leadership opportunities.

  • Inclusive employee resource groups and diversity initiatives.
