Job Summary
The Tool Coordinator is responsible for the overall management, organization, and tracking of tools and related supplies. Responsibilities include maintenance of tools, maintaining an efficient system for tooling, assisting with tooling preparations for upcoming jobs, optimizing costs for purchasing, and helping with calibration duties.
Essential Job Responsibilities
- Manage the check-in/check-out process for tools using barcode systems or inventory software to maintain accountability.
- Inspect returned tools for damage, wear, or safety hazards; tag and remove defective equipment from service immediately to meet OSHA safety standards.
- Coordinate the logistics for the transfer, delivery, and return of tools to and from job sites.
- Ensure the tool crib/room is a safe environment in line with health, safety, and environmental requirements.
- Working with Regional Tool Manager on purchases of tools and accessories including end mills, inserts, drills, tool holders, collets, lubricants, oils, etc.
- Working with Regional Tool Manager on purchases of supplies for production departments from basic department supplies, tools, equipment, fixtures, and materials as appropriate.
- Manage inventory and allocation of consumable tools, equipment, fixtures, etc.
- Prepare job boxes for upcoming orders.
- Research quotes for the more expensive purchases that need approval.
- Perform routine preventative maintenance on tools and ensure specialized electrical test equipment (such as multimeters and megohmmeters) is properly calibrated and certified for use.
- Help coordinate outside service technicians for tool maintenance and repairs as needed.
- Keep tools clean and organized; maintain a logical storage system.
- Ensure proper value and pricing is obtained on purchases.
- Maintain records and provide reports on purchases, costs, and expenditures.
- Properly maintain receipts, invoices, and documentation in an organized manner for accounting.
- Assist with the calibration of basic measuring tools.
- Help keep the shop or warehouse clean and organized.
- Help clean and deburr parts as needed.
Other duties may be assigned as needed to support business operations.
Minimum Qualifications
Required
- High degree of integrity and honesty.
- Time management to stay ahead of department needs and schedule.
- Proficiency in tool management, database software, Microsoft Excel, or ERP systems like SAP for accurate data entry and communication.
- Meticulous record keeping to prevent loss and ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.
- High school diploma or GED is standard; additional vocational training in electrical trades or inventory management is preferred.
- A valid driver's license is required for site deliveries; forklift certification may be necessary.
- Ability to inspect, measure, and evaluate tools for wear.
- Ability to repair certain tools if appropriate.
- Ability to sharpen bits and tools is a plus.
- Basic Math skills.
- Work with Regional Tool Manager and assist other staff with duties as assigned.

Work Environment:
- Primarily industrial production environment working with product, hand tools, and shop equipment.
- Daily report writing.
- Frequent standing, walking, lifting, and carrying of product is required.
- Ability to lift 70 lbs.
- Normal work schedule is Monday – Friday with some expanded schedules required for peak workload periods or projects.
This role requires compliance with all applicable safety regulations, personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements, and Loenbro's Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) policies.
