Position Summary

McGill’s Desautels Faculty of Management invites applications for one Assistant Professor tenure-track position in the Strategy & Organization (S&O) Area. The start date for the position is August 1, 2027. The position is open to candidates with a Ph.D. in any area of specialization relevant to strategy and organization, as well as to applicants demonstrating outstanding potential who are doctoral students and who plan to have completed the requirements for their Ph.D. by December 2027. Preference will be given to candidates whose research aligns with Faculty priority areas of Analytics, AI & Advanced Digital Technologies; Innovation & Entrepreneurship; Sustainability; or Equity, Diversity & Inclusion.

How organizations define, pursue, govern, and sustain forms of value that cannot be reduced to short-term economic performance may be the most pressing challenges of our time. Social impact is no longer a peripheral concern, but increasingly central to how the next generation of managers will be educated. Successful candidates should have the ability to teach courses focusing on the social impact of strategic management and organizations; and will demonstrate the ability to advance a cutting-edge, compelling and impactful research agenda. Social impact in strategic management is core to the intellectual identity of the Strategy and Organization area, where colleagues engage with programs focused on how organizations formulate direction, coordinate complex activity, respond to institutional pressures, and create value across multiple stakeholder groups.

The ideal candidate will have evidence of effective teaching, an experience-appropriate record of research publications in high quality, peer-reviewed journals, and clear promise of conducting innovative and important research publishable in the top journals in strategy and organization studies such as those listed on the Desautels 22. Successful candidates are also expected to work actively with doctoral students, to teach in our undergraduate and graduate programs, and contribute to the administration of the Area and Faculty. McGill University is an English-language university where most teaching and research activities are conducted in the English language, thereby requiring English communication both verbally and in writing; but knowledge of French or a willingness to learn French is desirable.

The Faculty offers a Major in Strategic Management at the undergraduate level, along with concentrations in Social Business & Enterprise and Global Strategy, as well as an MBA concentration in Global Strategy and Leadership and a PhD specialization in Strategy and Organization. Members of the Area are affiliated with the Centre for Strategy Studies in Organizations (CSSO), which promotes research on the formation of strategic direction, innovation in organizational forms and practices, and the relationship between organizations and society.
