The Technology Deployment Coordinator (TDC) is a senior individual contributor responsible for planning and coordinating the rollout of software and hardware across the organization’s dealerships. This role turns a technology change — a new phone system, a network upgrade, a software installation, or a major change to an existing application — into a clear plan that dealership leaders understand and the people doing the work can follow.

This is a planning and coordination role. The TDC does not configure systems, install equipment, or fix problems. They bring together the dealership team, internal technical staff, and outside vendors, make sure everyone knows what is happening, when, and why, and keep each rollout on schedule. They are not expected to be an expert in every technology they roll out. They are expected to know who the experts are, involve them early, and turn their input into a sound plan.

The role works alongside the internal Project Manager, who handles department-side coordination, director-level communication, and resource and priority decisions. Together they cover a rollout from start to finish without splitting communication across the department.

What This Role Does

The TDC owns the plan and the communication for each dealership rollout, from the first scoping conversation to the final follow-up. Before work begins, they meet with dealership leadership to understand the store’s operations, schedule, and concerns, and they work with subject matter experts to define what the rollout requires: equipment, connectivity, licenses, vendor support, and any conditions at the store that could affect the plan. They turn that into a schedule that respects how the dealership runs, so sales and service are disrupted as little as possible.

During a rollout, the TDC coordinates the vendors and internal employees performing the on-site work. They confirm that everyone knows their role, that dates and access are arranged, and that the dealership knows what to expect each day. When a vendor is late, a dependency is missing, or the plan has to change, they adjust the schedule, tell the people affected, and escalate what they cannot resolve with enough detail that the internal Project Manager or the responsible team can act without follow-up questions.

Communication is central to this role. Depending on the project, the TDC works with General Managers, department managers, dealership employees, and executives. They explain technical changes in plain language, set expectations, gather feedback, and keep each audience informed at the level of detail it needs.

Some rollouts call for travel. The TDC visits dealerships to scope a project, to lead or support end-user training, and to follow up after a rollout to confirm that the work was done well and that the dealership is comfortable with the change. They may deliver training themselves when the project calls for it, working with vendors and subject matter experts as needed.

After a rollout, the TDC confirms with the dealership that the work is complete, makes sure the handoff to the Service Desk is clear, documents what was delivered and what remains open, and reports the outcome to the internal Project Manager for portfolio tracking. Across rollouts they build working knowledge of the systems and vendors the organization uses most, and they apply lessons from each store to the next.

What This Role Is Not Responsible For

Hands-on technical work. The TDC does not configure systems or physically install equipment. That work belongs to vendors, field technicians, and internal technical teams, whom the TDC coordinates.

Break-fix support. Break-fix and routine end-user issues are handled by the Service Desk. The TDC handles rollout planning and coordination.

Portfolio management. Managing the overall IT project portfolio, tracking dependencies across departments, and working with directors on resource and priority decisions run through the internal Project Manager.

Vendor contracts. The TDC does not own vendor contract relationships. When a vendor is underperforming, the TDC documents it and communicates it through the appropriate channel. Contract escalation is a Vendor and Contract Management function.

Working Conditions

The TDC works in an office environment and at dealership locations, which include offices, service facilities, and active sales and service operations. Most work is done during regular business hours. Off-hours or weekend work may be needed from time to time when a rollout has to happen outside the dealership’s operating hours, but it is not a regular part of the role.

Travel of up to 50% is expected, including occasional overnight and multi-day trips. A valid driver’s license is required. The role has no lifting requirements.

Leveling Framework

TDC II is the level written here and is the standard career-track position. It describes a coordinator who plans and coordinates dealership rollouts independently, works directly with dealership leaders and executives, coordinates vendors and internal employees, exercises sound judgment when plans change, and communicates clearly without close supervision.
