Overall Job Summary

The Analytical Chemist supports analytical testing activities for raw materials, in-process samples, and finished products. This role is responsible for conducting laboratory analyses, operating analytical instrumentation, maintaining laboratory documentation, and supporting product development, quality, and supplier qualification initiatives.

Job Responsibilities

• Perform physical, chemical, and instrumental analyses on raw materials, in-process samples, and finished products using wet chemistry and analytical techniques.

• Operate and assist with the calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of laboratory instrumentation, including FTIR, UV-Vis, SEM-EDS, XRF, pH meters, conductivity meters, density meters, and other analytical equipment.

• Prepare samples, conduct testing, record observations, and accurately document results in laboratory systems and notebooks.

• Assist with material characterization and testing activities to support product development, quality investigations, and supplier evaluations.

• Oversee daily analytical laboratory operations, maintenance activities, and compliance with established laboratory procedures.

• Act as a point of contact for R&D on chemical analysis and material evaluations.

• Assist in managing analytical lab inventory including consumables, standards, and gases

• Follow and improve on Standard Operating Procedures for lab equipment and processes

• Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to enhance laboratory efficiency, testing capabilities, data quality, and process reliability.

Education/Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, materials science, or related STEM field required

• 2+ years of analytical laboratory experience

Skills/Abilities:

• Working knowledge of analytical chemistry principles and laboratory practices.

• Basic knowledge of analytical instrumentation, including SEM-EDS, XRD, FTIR, UV-Vis, TGA-DSC, and related laboratory equipment.

• Knowledge of method development, validation, calibration, and troubleshooting techniques.

• Understanding of quality systems, Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), ISO standards, and laboratory documentation requirements.

• Knowledge of laboratory safety regulations, chemical handling procedures, and environmental health and safety requirements.

• Basic experience with supplier qualification, quality investigations, and specification development.

• Office Environment - Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time and occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.  Required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading. May be required to exert up to 25 pounds of force occasionally to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.

• Factory - The worker may be subject to hazards. Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, vibration, moving vehicles, electrical current, exposure to temperature changes or exposure to chemicals.   While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, odors, dust, mists, and gases. The noise level in the work environment can be loud. Required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication parts at distances close to the eyes. Machinery operation requires the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to eye safety glasses, hearing protectors, work boots, and lab coats. May be required to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
