NIE invites applications for a Technical Specialist position in the Natural Sciences and Science Education (NSSE) Department. This is a 2-year contract position.

The key role of the Technical Specialist is to take care of different aspects of the teaching laboratories and ensuring the smooth and efficient running of the laboratory operations, including the safety of laboratory users.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical support for pre-service, in-service and post-graduate lab classes.
• Maintain and conduct troubleshooting for lab instruments/equipment in teaching and research labs.
• Willingness to learn the operation and safety protocols of the various scientific instruments to be assigned by the Head of Department.
• Ensure laboratory sessions are properly set up, i.e., equipment and consumables are properly prepared and cleaned after use.
• Plan and budget for the assigned Primary Science instrument maintenance, equipment upgrading, spare accessories, and consumables.
• Ensure laboratory instruments are in good working condition and maximize their lifetime. 
• Ensure adherence of safety procedures in the laboratories.
• Perform any other duties, e.g. in other science laboratories, as assigned by the reporting officer and Management team of NSSE Department.

Requirements

• A Polytechnic Diploma in Physics/Biology/Chemistry.
• Minimum 1-year related working experience in a science or related environment.
• Experience in providing technical support to students in higher education will be an added advantage.
• High level of safety awareness.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral.
• Ability to multitask, work independently, and effectively in a team.
• Hard-working, self-disciplined, responsible, and committed.
