Tax Manager (indirect & corporate tax)

Heidelberg Materials UK is seeking an experienced Tax Manager to join our Tax & Treasury team. This is an excellent opportunity to work across both indirect and direct taxes. You will be responsible for providing indirect tax, transaction and project support across our UK operations as well as corporate tax compliance and reporting on a number of trading and corporate entities (with developmental support as required).

Description of Team / Department

The UK tax department (team of 8) is responsible for all taxes impacting the domestic commercial operations as well as many corporate companies with inbound and outbound tax issues. This role offers exposure to senior stakeholders across finance and operations, providing the opportunity to influence business decisions, support strategic projects, and help shape best practice in tax compliance and risk management.

What You'll Be Doing

Key responsibilities include:

• Reviewing VAT tax returns and managing VAT compliance and other UK indirect taxes such as Aggregates Levy, Landfill Tax, CIS, Plastic Packaging Tax (with developmental support as required).
• Supporting UK corporate tax compliance, reporting, and statutory tax disclosures (with developmental support as required).
• Providing tax advice on business transactions, projects and operational initiatives on a range of domestic and international tax matters
• Working with finance and operational teams to enhance processes, controls and systems that impact tax risk management and compliance.
• Managing HMRC enquiries and tax audits, helping to defend and support the company's tax positions.
• Identifying opportunities to improve tax processes and optimise both direct and indirect tax outcomes for the business.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for a motivated and technically strong tax professional with indirect and corporate tax experience preferably from a mid/large tax firm or already in-house. You'll ideally have:

• ACA, CTA or equivalent professional qualification.
• Tax experience gained within industry and/or a mid to large accountancy practice.
• Strong knowledge of VAT
• UK corporation tax compliance and reporting exposure.
• Solid accounting and audit knowledge.
• Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Proactive, self-motivated and solutions-focused approach.
• Good IT skills, with SAP and alphatax experience desirable.
