About the Role

HPE Storage is seeking a Software Update Test Engineer to drive software update validation efforts across the HPE Alletra Storage MP X10000 Object Storage and File Storage portfolio. This role focuses on ensuring the reliability, availability, and quality of software updates across complex, distributed storage environments.

As a member of the Storage QA Engineering team, you will design and execute test plans that validate software updates across all storage cluster components, including storage nodes, JBOFs, Ethernet switches, and associated infrastructure services. Because the platform is built on a Kubernetes-based architecture, this role requires validating both storage software upgrades and Kubernetes version upgrades, ensuring seamless interoperability, service continuity, data integrity, and customer experience throughout the update lifecycle.

The ideal candidate combines strong systems knowledge with hands-on testing expertise and enjoys solving complex challenges spanning distributed systems, storage technologies, Linux, Kubernetes, and networking.

What You'll Do

• Design, execute, and automate software update validation test plans for HPE Alletra Object and File Storage solutions.
• Validate storage cluster upgrades involving storage software, Kubernetes platform updates, firmware, operating systems, and infrastructure components.
• Test update scenarios across all cluster elements, including storage nodes, JBOFs, switches, and management services.
• Execute functional, resiliency, failover, recovery, interoperability, scalability, and regression testing before, during, and after software updates.
• Verify cluster health, data integrity, service availability, and operational stability throughout update workflows.
• Develop customer-representative upgrade, rollback, and disaster recovery test scenarios, including mixed-version and long-lived production-like environments.
• Investigate and troubleshoot issues across storage, Kubernetes, Linux, and networking layers.
• Develop and maintain automation frameworks, test tools, and validation infrastructure using Python and modern testing technologies.
• Partner closely with development, architecture, quality engineering, and support teams to identify and resolve software update issues.
• Analyze test results and provide clear root-cause analysis and release readiness recommendations.

What You Need to Bring

Education & Experience

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
• 5+ years of experience in software testing, system validation, storage engineering, distributed systems, or related technical domains.
• Experience validating software releases for enterprise infrastructure or cloud-native platforms.
• Proven experience designing and executing upgrade, migration, or release validation test strategies.

Technical Skills

• Strong understanding of Linux and operating system fundamentals.
• Experience with Kubernetes-based platforms and containerized applications.
• Knowledge of distributed systems, storage architectures, and networking fundamentals.
• Strong programming and automation skills using Python.
• Working knowledge of JavaScript and modern development practices.
• Experience with software update, upgrade, rollback, migration, and release validation methodologies.
• Ability to analyze issues across multiple layers of the technology stack and drive root-cause investigations.
