Job Details

New ideas are all around us, but only a few will change the world. That’s our focus at JPL. We ask the biggest questions, then search the universe for answers—literally. We build upon ideas that have guided generations, then share our discoveries to inspire generations to come. Your mission—your opportunity—is to seek out the answers that bring us one step closer. If you’re driven to discover, create, and inspire something that lasts a lifetime and beyond, you’re ready for JPL.

Located in Pasadena, California, JPL has a campus-like environment situated on 177 acres in the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains and offers a work environment unlike any other: we inspire passion, foster innovation, build collaboration, and reward excellence.

Responsibilities:

The Flight Software and Systems Engineering Section delivers end-to-end flight system and flight software engineering across all mission phases.

The section provides leadership in information systems engineering, autonomous behaviors and fault protection, advanced flight software architectures, embedded systems, EDL systems, and project V&V. Its responsibilities include planning, requirements development, architecture definition, integration, modeling, analysis, ATLO support, and mission operations.

The Project Verification and Validation (V&V) Group provides Systems Engineering leadership and support for the technical evaluation of integrated systems encompassing payload, spacecraft, and mission elements, from formulation to implementation.  The group ensures robust system performance for its intended mission by addressing requirements development and compliance, model validation, as-built integrated system validation, and delivering the V&V Program artifacts/products to demonstrate Flight Readiness. The scope covers Project- and System-level V&V, multi-subsystem flight interfaces, flight-ground interfaces including launch vehicle, critical models, and V&V Program Management.

We are seeking a highly motivated and inquisitive Systems Engineer II to join the Project Verification and Validation Group, reporting administratively to the Technical Group Supervisor and programmatically to the Project Systems Engineer.

Tasks include but are not limited to:

  • Lead the Flight Parameters Certification for GRACE-C in collaboration with the Systems Engineering team at JPL and in Germany.

  • Review evidence from external partners + JPL subsystems and assess/update/ensure its traceability to requirements,
  • Work with instrument and project-level stakeholders to evaluate Requirements compliance and document their closure,
  • Work with stakeholders to update the V&V Matrix in Jama,
  • Support project reviews and Certification of Flight Readiness (CoFR) activities.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s in engineering or physics with a minimum of 3 years of related work experience; Master’s in a similar job discipline with a minimum of 1 year of related work experience; PhD in a related job discipline with 0 years of related work experience.
