JOB SUMMARY, DESCRIPTION & QUALIFICATIONS:

Job Summary

The Security Supervisor ensures the safety and security of students, employees, and visitors at the College and Alternative High School. This role supports the security team in daily security operations, coordinates student security workers, and provides outstanding customer service through a supportive, people-centered approach while remaining alert to potential safety concerns. This role contributes to daily security operations and works closely with Security Students to ensure that they have the tools they need to successfully complete their daily duties.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Security Operations, Alternative High & Customer Service

• Conduct security screenings at the Alternative High School, including metal detector checks, to prevent unauthorized items.
• Patrol campus areas, respond to safety concerns, and provide personal escort assistance.
• Assist with vehicle jump-starts, vehicle lock-outs, lost and found processing, provide directions to campus locations, and other customer service-related duties as they arise.
• Maintain strong campus relations through community policing efforts.
• Oversee scheduling, training, and coordination of student security workers to ensure adequate coverage and provide the tools and guidance needed to complete their daily duties.
• Provide educational security presentations to employees and students as assigned.

Incident Reporting & Emergency Response

• Conduct investigations, document security incidents, policy violations, and safety concerns.
• Ensure all security incidents and policy violations, and safety concerns are properly documented in Maxient.
• Collaborate with Human Resources and Student Services on incident reporting and record maintenance in support of Clery Act and Title IX compliance.
• Respond to campus emergencies, including medical situations, severe weather, and fire alarms.
• Support law enforcement coordination and activate emergency protocols when necessary.

Facility & Preventative Maintenance

• Monitor and report facility hazards, security camera malfunctions, and access control issues.
• Submit work orders for maintenance needs and assist with minor winter maintenance tasks.
• Ensure proper placement of emergency signage and assist with event security.

Building & Fire Safety

• Conduct routine facility checks, ensuring secure access points and clear evacuation routes.
• Oversee fire extinguisher inspections and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
• Oversee quarterly first responder bag inspections.

Minimum Qualifications Required

In limited circumstances, NTC may consider a combination of education, training, and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of this position.

Education: Associate's Degree (or Equivalent)

• Criminal Justice or other related field.

Experience: 2 Years

• Two years of experience in security, law enforcement, or a related public safety role. Experience in an educational setting and coordinating, training, or supervising student workers or other employees is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

In order to perform the functions and responsibilities of the position (listed above) the following knowledge, skills, and abilities, including language skills, reasoning and mathematical abilities are essential.

Language Skills:

Ability to read, write and comprehend instructions, reports and emails; speak and may present information to groups.

Math Skills:

Ability to add and subtract numbers using basic units of measurement.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to critically think and solve problems involving a variety of concrete variables with limited standardization; interpret written, oral and diagrammed instructions.

Technical Skills:

Ability to manage and track document changes; create, modify and format templates and files; ability to use multiple computer screens and multitask in several computer applications.

Customer Service Skills:

Ability to actively listen, discern key information, and respond professionally; ask follow up or clarifying questions to diffuse escalated situations and offer appropriate problem resolution when necessary.

Other Requirements

• Required to carry a firearm as part of assigned duties and meet insurance standards for carrying a firearm on campus. Required proficiency in less-lethal devices including Tasers and OC spray.
• Required proficiency in the use of portable breath testers (PBT.)
• Must be a certified Emergency Medical Responder or obtain this certification through NTC within the first 6 months of employment.
• Required to provide security coverage for graduations and designated special events.
• Familiarity with Clery Act, Title IX, and other campus safety compliance requirements.
• Comprehensive understanding of security, safety, and emergency response operations in higher education settings.
