Job Description

University of Nevada, Reno Extension is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented student to join the Washoe County Master Gardener Program. This position offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in program evaluation, data analysis, community education, and nonprofit-style program administration while supporting one of Extension's most recognized volunteer programs. The position will help document and showcase the impact of Master Gardener volunteers across Washoe County through year-end reporting and impact statement development. This position is not on the main University of Nevada, Reno campus and is located in our extension University of Nevada, Reno campus in Washoe County.

Responsibilities

  • Collect and organize program data from Master Gardener activities and events.

  • Assist with year-end reporting and impact documentation.

  • Research, draft, and edit impact statements highlighting program outcomes and community benefits.

  • Compile volunteer, education, and outreach data into reporting templates and databases.

  • Review records for accuracy and completeness.

  • Assist with data entry, spreadsheet management, and record maintenance.

  • Support administrative projects and special assignments related to Extension horticulture programming.

  • Collaborate with Extension faculty, staff, and Master Gardener volunteers to gather information and success stories.

Required Qualifications

  • Current University of Nevada, Reno student enrollment.​

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational abilities.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.

  • Ability to work independently while collaborating with a team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Coursework in communications, journalism, public administration, social sciences, environmental sciences, agriculture, horticulture, business, or a related field.

  • Experience with data entry, reporting, research, or program evaluation.

  • Interest in gardening, horticulture, sustainability, or community education.

Schedule

Up to 15 hours per week, to potentially include some evening and/or weekend activities. Flexible schedule around class schedule

Compensation Grade

Student Employee Level 3

$18.00/hour
