Overview

This position aims to enhance the retention and success of returning students at AUBH and mitigate the risk of student attrition due to low academic performance. The job holder is primarily responsible for monitoring, tracking, and supporting students who are at risk academically, with the aim of identifying concerns early, providing appropriate guidance and interventions, and connecting students with relevant University support services. The position holder may also provide support with student counselling-related matters and the processing of student grievances and appeals, as required.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Advise and support students at risk in relation to course selection, registration, academic workload, and progression requirements.

2. Monitor the attendance of students at risk and proactively follow up with students who demonstrate concerning attendance patterns or are missing classes.

3. Monitor the academic performance and engagement of students at risk throughout the semester and proactively follow up to provide guidance, encouragement, and appropriate support.

4. Identify students who may require additional academic, personal, or wellbeing support and coordinate referrals to academic advisors, the University Counselor, or other relevant University support services, as appropriate.

5. Coordinate meetings and follow-up between students and their academic advisors and/or the University Counselor to ensure that identified concerns are appropriately addressed.

6. Maintain appropriate records of student interventions, follow-ups, referrals, and outcomes, while ensuring confidentiality and adherence to University policies and procedures.

7. Provide support in counselling-related student matters, including assisting with student follow-up and coordination with the University Counselor, as required.

8. Assist with receiving, reviewing, coordinating, and processing student grievance and appeal requests, in accordance with University policies and procedures, as required.

9. Contribute to the development and implementation of student retention and early-intervention strategies and initiatives.

10. Perform other duties and responsibilities related to student success, support, and retention as assigned or required.

Requirements

Qualifications & Experience Required:

• Bachelor's Degree is required, preferably in Psychology or Education.
• Three years of full-time professional experience, preferably in an educational context such as a university or high school.
• Professional certification or experience in teaching and learning is an advantage.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience, preferably in an academic or higher education setting.

• Demonstrated commitment to student success, retention, and holistic student support.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build trust and rapport with students, particularly students experiencing academic or personal challenges.
• Ability to identify students at risk and proactively initiate appropriate interventions and follow-up.
• Ability to work independently with minimum direction and strict adherence to deadlines while handling multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Knowledge of university policies and regulations related to registration, academic progression, student conduct, grievances, and appeals.
• Ability to handle sensitive student matters with professionalism, discretion, empathy, and confidentiality.
• Ability to work proactively and collaboratively with various internal and external constituencies.
• Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills in both English (US) and Arabic.
• Excellent planning, organization, follow-up, and case management skills.
