Affordable Course Materials Student Job Description

The Jim Dan Hill Library is seeking a student employee to support course affordability and access initiatives at the University of Wisconsin–Superior. This position assists with identifying library-owned, licensed, and open educational resources (OER) that may reduce textbook costs for students while improving access to course materials. The student employee will work collaboratively with library personnel to review course schedules, locate instructional materials, communicate resource availability to instructors, and support outreach related to affordable learning initiatives.

  • 15 hours weekly
  • 15 weeks in Fall 2026
  • 15 weeks in Spring 2027
  • Total: 450 hours
  • $13.00 per hour

 

Job Duties

  • Review the class schedule each semester (It’s possible we can just request a report from the bookstore each semester now – we should confirm that before we codify this as a job duty) – EM will ask Michael if this is a report we can get
  • Identify required course materials
  • Record course and materials data in a shared spreadsheet
  • Search the library catalog for materials
  • Record perma-links for available electronic materials
  • Record perma-links for available print resources
  • Communicate available materials to instructors – electronic resources may be linked in the class and print resources may be added to course reserves
  • Refer unavailable materials to Acquisitions for possible purchase
  • Identify OER from the Open Textbook Library that may be of interest and record
  • Distribute flyers/information related to course affordability initiatives in the library
  • Track LTC/ZTC course markings from schedule every term

The University will not reveal the identities of applicants who request confidentiality in writing, except that the identities of ‘final candidates’ must be revealed upon request. According to the Attorney General, ‘final candidates’ under Wisconsin law means the five candidates who are considered most qualified for the position. See Wis. Stat. Sec. 19.36(7)(a).

Employment will require a criminal background check, and if you have prior work history within the last seven years with Universities of Wisconsin or State of Wisconsin agencies, a personnel file review check for employee misconduct. It will also require your references to answer questions regarding employee misconduct, sexual violence and sexual harassment. The University reserves the right to check references with notice given to the candidates at the appropriate time in the process.
