About the team and the role
Join eBay’s Advertising and Marketing Technology teams and help build the platforms, services, and user experiences that support sellers and advertisers in growing their business. This role sits within a high-scale engineering environment spanning frontend applications, backend services, APIs, data pipelines, and AI-assisted engineering workflows. You will partner closely with product, design, analytics, and applied science teams to turn business problems into reliable, maintainable software that delivers measurable customer and seller impact.
This is a strong fit for an engineer who enjoys solving practical engineering problems in a fast-moving environment, making sound technical tradeoffs, and taking ownership from design through production.
What you will accomplish
Build innovative advertising and marketing technology capabilities that help eBay sellers and advertisers grow their business and strengthen eBay’s customer experience.
Develop scalable, highly available applications, APIs, and services across modern frontend and backend technologies including Marko, React, Node.js, Java, and Scala.
Own end-to-end delivery of complex features, from technical design and architecture through deployment, production support, and continuous improvement.
Drive technical decisions and system design in partnership with cross-functional teams to deliver scalable, reliable, and maintainable solutions.
Use AI-assisted development tools to improve engineering velocity across coding, debugging, testing, and code review, while partnering with ML engineers on AI-powered marketing and advertising capabilities.
Contribute to a culture of continuous learning, agile delivery, technical excellence, and mentoring across the engineering organization.
What you will bring
BS/BA in Computer Science or a related field plus 10+ years of experience, or an MS plus 8+ years of relevant experience.
Strong experience in Java (17+) and building services with Spring Boot or similar frameworks, along with a track record of building scalable backend systems and RESTful APIs.
Experience with distributed systems, event-driven architectures, and message queues such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, or similar technologies.
Experience working with relational and/or NoSQL databases, including schema design and query optimization; familiarity with big data technologies such as Hadoop, Spark, or Flink is valuable.
Proven ability to lead end-to-end system design, write technical design documents, guide design reviews, and evaluate tradeoffs across scalability, availability, latency, and cost.
Experience with AI-assisted development practices and tools; exposure to GraphQL, federated APIs, LLM-powered features, agentic workflows, or open-source contributions is a plus.
