Senior Medical Director / Executive Medical Director

US Remote Based

Fortrea is seeking a Senior Medical Director or Executive Medical Director to provide medical leadership and strategic support while partnering with clients and cross-functional teams to strengthen relationships and drive successful clinical development programs. This role will provide oversight, mentorship, and guidance to team members while contributing to key initiatives across Global Clinical Operations. The ideal candidate is a collaborative and influential leader with deep clinical research expertise, strong clinical judgment, and a passion for advancing patient care and innovative therapies.

Key / Core Responsibilities

·       Contributes to the development of Company policies involving medical, safety, and therapeutics.

·       Participates in process improvement activities across the Company.

·       Provides leadership to staff within the therapeutic area.

·       Leads initiatives that impact and involve physicians within and across the therapeutic area.

·       May contribute to the vision and strategic direction of the therapeutic area.

·       Develops training modules and materials and provides training in disease states and protocol-specific requirements across the Company.

·       Participates in training opportunities to advance knowledge of drug development and Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines.

·       Provides subject matter and drug development expertise as a key contributor to the medical strategy and execution of client programs.

·       Develops, reviews, and revises protocols, case report forms, training materials, project-specific tools, analysis plan designs, clinical trial reports, and new drug applications.

·       Provides medical and scientific expertise to project teams.

·       Acts as Medical Monitor/study support on a protocol or program basis for early clinical trials and is responsible for medical and safety monitoring on assigned projects.

·       Interacts with interdepartmental teams and external consultants as appropriate.

·       Participates in feasibility discussions relating to specific project proposals.

·       Participates in project risk assessment activities.

·       Assists, when needed, with Data Safety Monitoring Board activities.

·       Provides clinical and medical expertise to other Fortrea departments.

·       Contributes to the scientific and strategic leadership of a therapeutic area.

·       Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Required Qualifications

·       MD or DO degree required.

·       Professional degree/designations/certifications/licenses legally required: MD/DO.

·       Relevant subspecialty fellowship training and history of board certification, as appropriate.

·       Fortrea may consider relevant and equivalent experience in lieu of educational requirements.

·       At least 10 years of experience; postgraduate training may be substituted by relevant expertise.

·       Recognized as a clinical research leader within their therapeutic area, with substantial knowledge of drug development and extensive clinical research experience within the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, CRO, or clinical research industry, which may be considered in lieu of board certification specialization where appropriate.

Work Environment

·       Work is performed in an office environment with exposure to electrical office equipment.

·       Occasional domestic and international travel may be required.

Physical Requirements

·       Frequently stationary for 6 to 8 hours per day.

·       Repetitive hand movement of both hands with the ability to make fast, simple, repeated movements of the fingers, hands, and wrists.

·       Occasional crouching and stooping, with frequent bending and twisting of the upper body and neck.

·       Ability to access and use a variety of computer software developed both in-house and off-the-shelf.

·       Light to moderate lifting and carrying (or otherwise moving) objects, including luggage and laptop computers, with a maximum lift of 15 to 20 pounds.

·       Regular and consistent attendance.

·       Varied hours may be required.

Pay Range

USD $173,000 - $320,000 annually

All job offers will be based on a candidate's skills and prior relevant experience, applicable degrees/certifications, internal equity, and market data.
