Position Overview: DCI is hiring a full-time Sport Performance Coordinator (Athletic Trainer). This position will oversee the overall management of DCI’s Athletic Program with a particular emphasis on injury prevention and rehabilitation of student athletes in grades 6-12. This position will report to the Assistant Athletic Director 

Salary Range: $63,113- $103,515 (Starting salary is determined by education and years of relevant experience)  

Work Schedule: Hours: 9:30 AM - 6:00 PM, Monday - Friday; nights, weekends, and school breaks as needed based on athletic schedule.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree is required.

Athletic Trainer Certified (ATC) required

A Master’s Degree in secondary education or this content area is preferred. 

  • Good communication skills in communicating to parents and staff.
  • A current relevant professional certification credentialed by an independent accreditation agency for example, the NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) certification.
  • Current standard first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and automated external defibrillation (AED) certifications.
  • Ability to use multiple technology platforms to guide instruction and communicate with students and families and proficiency with communicating using G-Suite tools, including Gmail, is preferred.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills. 
  • Clear background check. 

Key Qualities & Skills:

  • Coordinate and organize the daily Athletic Trainer functions with the Assistant Athletic Director and coaches of all teams.
  • Complete all reporting requirements to the district.
  • Review student physicals and releases to ensure authenticity.
  • It is expected to meet the school’s professional, clinical, technical, communication and documentation requirements and standards and to make decisions based on established National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA) guidelines.
  • Devises training plans according to sound scientific principles, supervises training sessions, evaluates athletes, maintains athlete records, and oversees strength and conditioning.
  • Meets regularly with sport coaches to determine what the athletes need to work on if working with an injured athlete engaged in rehabilitation.
  • Responsible for maintaining the strength and conditioning facility, and for establishing policies, plans, and procedures for the safe and professional operation of the facility.

 

Job Duties & Responsibilities: 

 

  • Design and implement policies and procedures for the Athletic Training and Strength and Conditioning program in accordance with the Professional Standards Guidelines.
  • Responsible for prevention, emergency care, first aid, evaluation, and rehabilitation of injuries to athletes under his/her care.
  • Provide emergency care and first aid including availability of necessary equipment, communication procedures for emergency situations, and prompt, accurate triage.
  • Evaluate acute and chronic injuries and refer out where appropriate. Determine if a player may return to competition following an injury.
  • Assist with prevention of injuries including education for athletes and Athletic Trainers, identifying factors that put athletes “at risk”, correcting deficiencies in athletes as deemed necessary, as well as taping and bracing.
  • Treat athletic injuries with protection, rest, ice, compression, evaluation, support, cold/heat/ and hydrotherapy as needed or prescribed with the availability of modalities.
  • Cover team practices and sporting events as scheduled with the Assistant Athletic Director.
  • Maintains accurate and complete student documentation as required by law, district policy and administrative regulations.
  • Maintain records including injury reports, home care instructions, referrals, treatment records, rehabilitation progress notes, and insurance information.
  • Maintains appropriate levels of confidentiality.
  • Secure training room and weight room equipment  and supplies as needed.
  • Develop, supervise, evaluate, and modify exercise programs for rehabilitation to help athletes return to a pre-injury status.
  • Design and instruct curricular strength and conditioning classes, as needed.
  • Coordinate a co-curricular novice level program exposure for grades 6 – 8 that serves as a strength and conditioning introduction reflecting research-driven practices.
  • Supervise and coordinate the strength and conditioning club, which serves as a school to careers exposure and offers a student liaison opportunity to the athlete population.
  • Design and implement strength training and conditioning programs in-season, off-season, and pre-season for all school-sanctioned male and female athletic teams.
  • Establishment of a positive learning environment that promotes a high level of achievement for all students while considering the background and developmental level of the individual students.
  • Serve as liaison between the athlete, the athlete’s parents, and coaching staff.
  • Prepares and maintains a variety of reports, correspondence and notices.
  • Collaborates with school personnel to develop school-wide initiatives to make schools safer and more effective.
  • Conduct an annual needs-analysis for each sport team in conjunction with the sport coach at the conclusion of each sport season.
  • Annually conduct and review a departmental risk management plan.
  • Complete an annual budgetary proposal for the program that includes routine maintenance, purchase of new equipment, and staffing needs.
  • Conduct an annual evaluation of departmental staff, including the design of professional development activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.
