Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and passionate Software Engineer to join the Qualys next-generation Platform team.

We are looking for an engineer who can take end-to-end ownership of software features throughout the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) — from understanding requirements and participating in design, through development, automation, release validation, deployment, and production support.

This role combines software development and automation engineering. The candidate is expected to design and develop scalable backend services while also taking strong ownership of test automation, integration validation, regression coverage, and release quality.

The ideal candidate is someone who thinks beyond simply developing code or executing test cases. They should be able to build the feature, understand its dependencies, build comprehensive automation around it, troubleshoot issues across the stack, and ensure the feature is production-ready.

Automation is a core engineering responsibility in this role and should be developed alongside the product code as part of the overall software delivery lifecycle.

Responsibilities

• Own assigned features end-to-end across the SDLC, from requirement analysis and technical design through development, automation, release, deployment, and production support.
• Design and develop scalable Java-based backend services, REST APIs, microservices, and platform components using sound software engineering principles.
• Design, develop, and maintain scalable and reusable automation frameworks as an integral part of feature development.
• Build comprehensive automated coverage across API, integration, backend workflows, UI, end-to-end, and regression scenarios using Rest Assured, Playwright, Selenium, or equivalent technologies.
• Develop reusable automation libraries, utilities, and test-data components while continuously improving automation coverage, reliability, maintainability, and execution efficiency.
• Validate complex end-to-end workflows across APIs, microservices, databases, messaging systems, and downstream services, including asynchronous and event-driven workflows.
• Integrate automated test suites into CI/CD pipelines, establish automated quality gates, and optimize test execution through parallelization and efficient test strategies.
• Own automated regression and release validation for assigned features and ensure new functionality has appropriate automated coverage and production-readiness validation.
• Analyze automation and product failures, perform root cause analysis, and troubleshoot issues across application code, databases, messaging systems, containers, and infrastructure.
• Participate in architecture and design discussions and contribute to scalability, reliability, performance, observability, and testability improvements.
• Troubleshoot production and pre-production issues and collaborate with Development, QA, SRE, and other teams to implement corrective and preventive solutions.
• Continuously improve engineering and automation practices by adopting modern tools, including AI-assisted development and automation technologies, to improve software quality and engineering productivity.

Required Skills

• 3-5 years of experience in software development, automation engineering, or a combination of both.
• Strong hands-on experience with Java programming and good understanding of OOP, data structures, concurrency, and software design principles.
• Strong hands-on experience in test automation and automation framework development.
• Experience building and maintaining automation rather than only executing existing test scripts.
• Experience developing REST APIs, microservices, and distributed systems.
• Strong experience with API automation, preferably Rest Assured or equivalent.
• Experience with UI automation using Playwright, Selenium, or similar technologies.
• Experience developing unit, integration, API, and end-to-end automated tests.
• Strong understanding of REST APIs, HTTP, JSON, authentication, and distributed workflows.
• Experience with Kafka, RabbitMQ, or similar messaging technologies.
• Hands-on experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience with container registries such as Docker Hub, OpenShift, or JFrog Artifactory.
• Strong understanding of databases, SQL, data validation, and data modeling concepts.
• Exposure to Oracle and NoSQL technologies such as Cassandra, Elasticsearch, and Redis.
• Strong debugging, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis skills.
• Ability to understand backend implementation and independently troubleshoot issues across multiple layers of a distributed system.
• Strong understanding of software quality, automation strategy, regression testing, and release validation.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work independently and collaboratively across engineering teams.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working on SaaS, cloud security, cybersecurity, OT/ICS, or enterprise-scale platforms.
• Experience designing or significantly improving automation frameworks.
• Experience with parallel and distributed test execution.
• Experience with test data management and automation optimization.
• Experience with observability and monitoring tools.
• Understanding of SRE practices and production reliability engineering.
• Experience using AI-assisted engineering tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Windsurf, or Claude Code.
• Experience applying AI to software development, testing, debugging, or automation.

Education

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
