Job Summary

BP International Limited is seeking a skilled and motivated Backend Software Engineer to design, develop, and maintain scalable backend applications and data-driven solutions.

The ideal candidate will have strong programming fundamentals with experience in any modern programming language, preferably Node.js/JavaScript, along with a good understanding of SQL and PL/SQL. Exposure to both software development and data engineering is highly desirable. The role requires strong problem-solving skills and the ability to communicate and collaborate effectively within cross-functional teams.

Job Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and maintain robust and scalable backend applications and services.
• Develop backend solutions using a modern programming language, with Node.js/JavaScript preferred.
• Work with relational databases and write efficient SQL and PL/SQL queries, procedures, and data-processing logic.
• Apply relational data modelling principles when designing and implementing database solutions.
• Contribute to data engineering activities, including data integration, transformation, processing, and troubleshooting.
• Participate across the complete software development lifecycle, from requirements and solution design through development, deployment, and production support.
• Collaborate with product owners, architects, developers, data engineers, and operations teams to deliver high-quality solutions.
• Develop scripts and automation to improve development and operational efficiency.
• Participate in system design and solution architecture discussions.
• Follow software engineering, coding, testing, and information security best practices.
• Support production services, investigate technical issues, and contribute to overall system reliability and resilience.
• Demonstrate strong problem-solving, communication, collaboration, and knowledge-sharing skills within an agile team.
  

Job Qualifications

Essential

• Proven experience in backend software development.
• Strong programming and software engineering fundamentals in at least one programming language.
• Good understanding of SQL, relational databases, and relational data modelling.
• Experience developing, debugging, and supporting backend applications and services.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Good understanding of software development lifecycle and agile development practices.
• Experience with source control tools such as Git.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across technical and business teams.

Preferred

• Hands-on experience with Node.js / JavaScript/ SQL .
• Working knowledge of SQL or PL/SQL, including procedures and database programming.
• Exposure to data engineering, data integration, ETL/ELT, or data-processing solutions.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, release management, and deployment automation.
• Experience developing scripts for automation and operational activities.
• Understanding of system design, APIs, integration patterns, and solution architecture.
• Familiarity with information security principles and secure software development practices.
• Experience supporting production applications with a focus on availability, resilience, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
