Description of Work

This position is a 12 month position within Cabarrus Youth Development Center teaching Social Studies courses to students in grades 6-12. Teacher will be responsible for planning lessons based on the NC Standards and student’s individual learning needs. Teacher will be responsible for ensuring success with all students while providing appropriate and engaging activities to teach concepts. Teacher will provide research-based strategies and interventions to provide an appropriate education for all students. Teacher will utilize data to inform all instructional activities based on NC Standards, implement IEPs, and be responsible for keeping all student records. This position serves as a member of the interdisciplinary team in order to plan for student services and treatment. Teacher will be responsible for keeping all student records, exceptional children's program and other paperwork, and student progress up to date.

Salary is based on the NC Teaching Salary Schedule plus a 6% supplement.

Work Schedule:

This is a full-time position.  Work hours for this position are Monday-Friday, 7AM-4:30PM.

The Minimum Education and Experience (E&E) is REQUIRED to qualify for this position. Management Preferences, including Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs), are not required but may be used to determine the pool of most qualified applicants. Managers may also choose to interview/select applicants who demonstrate Management Preferences.

All work history and education (including accurate dates of employment/attendance) must be documented on the application. Management Preferences:

• Experience providing effective instruction to meet the needs of students with diverse needs

• Experience in creating a safe environment for students utilizing behavioral management techniques.

• Experience in creating lessons that coincide with Common Core State Standards and NC Essential Skills in order to improve student achievement.

Transcripts

Additionally, qualifying for some positions may require validating hours of coursework in a specific field of study and transcripts are crucial to awarding credit. Military Experience

Minimum Education and Experience

The candidate must possess a valid North Carolina teacher license, "A" or "M", with teaching certification in the area of Social Studies (middle school) or Social Studies (high school) or be eligible for a NC Teacher License through an alternative licensing pathway offered by NCDPI.  

The successful candidate must also have a four year college degree from an accredited post-secondary education institution.
