Position Summary
The Shop Assistant provides administrative and operational support to the fabrication shop by tracking productivity, maintaining project documentation, coordinating material flow, and supporting communication between the shop, project management, and field operations. This role is essential to ensuring accurate reporting, efficient shop processes, and timely project execution while maintaining quality and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
Track and monitor daily shop productivity and performance metrics.
Generate, maintain, and distribute productivity reports for shop leadership.
Prepare and process Bill of Material (BOM) requisitions to support fabrication activities.
Assist with receiving, inspecting, and checking in materials upon arrival.
Manage and maintain all non-model fabrication drawings and related documentation.
Update fabrication percentage-complete logs on a daily basis.
Attend daily shop meetings, document meeting minutes, and distribute information as needed.
Track and maintain shop safety logs, documentation, and performance metrics.
Maintain quality control documentation, including nonconformance logs and corrective action tracking.
Maintain productivity logs and performance dashboards to support operational decision-making.
Coordinate with Project Managers, Superintendents, and field personnel to ensure accurate scheduling and timely delivery of fabricated materials.
Utilize computer systems to support project tracking, scheduling, inventory management, document control, and internal communications.
Verify and publish fabrication information using Stratus.
Support fabrication and Virtual Design & Construction (VDC) processes by utilizing Navisworks and assisting with fabrication software workflows.
Perform other administrative and operational duties as assigned to support fabrication shop operations.

Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or construction-related education preferred.
Previous experience in construction, fabrication, manufacturing, or shop administration preferred.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.
Technical Skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Excel, and Word.
Experience using Navisworks required.
Experience with Stratus or similar fabrication software preferred.
Familiarity with Autodesk Revit, AutoCAD, or other VDC/fabrication software is preferred.
Ability to quickly learn company-specific software, fabrication management systems, and project tracking tools.
Physical & Work Requirements
Ability to work in both an office and fabrication shop environment.
Occasionally lift or move materials up to 25 pounds.
Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the shop as needed.
Must be able to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) while in the fabrication facility.
