Job Description

As a UX Writer / Content Designer at Motorola Solutions, you'll write the words people rely on when seconds matter - the call handler taking a 911/999 call, the police officer checking a plate, or the investigator piecing together a timeline. In our work, clear language isn't a polish layer; it directly impacts how effectively the product performs.

You will work alongside UX Designers, Accessibility Specialists, the Design Systems team, and software partners to make language consistent, clear, and intuitive across our applications and services:

• Onboarding flows and navigation

• System states, notifications, and microcopy

• High-stress error messages read at 3 a.m. mid-incident

Expect to be in Figma early, shaping product decisions rather than labeling them after they are made. Because our products are specialized, you'll spend real time learning the UK public safety domain - how our users actually communicate, which terms are critical, and where plain language serves them better than sector jargon. You don't need to arrive as an expert, but you do need the curiosity to become one.

Responsibilities include:

• Craft User Experience Copy: Write and refine clear UI text, onboarding flows, navigation, error messages, and microcopy across complex digital products.

• Define Tone & Standards: Own our product tone of voice and content design guidelines, evolving them as our software suite expands.

• Early-Stage Partnership: Partner with designers, researchers, and product managers from discovery through launch, entering the process early enough to influence design decisions.

• Evidence-Based Iteration: Test and refine content using qualitative user research, field feedback, and usability testing.

• Domain Mastery: Build deep fluency in public safety terminology, making deliberate choices about where domain-specific language belongs.

• Design System Integration: Contribute language patterns, component copy guidelines, and content standards to our design system.

Basic Requirements

• Proven Track Record: 5+ years of experience designing product copy/content for complex web and mobile digital products.

• Product Portfolio: A portfolio demonstrating problem-solving through product copy - showing your design thinking and trade-offs, not just finished strings. (Focused on product interface work, not marketing or copywriting).

• Design Integration: Strong grounding in user-centred design (UCD) principles and hands-on experience working directly in Figma (or similar tools).

• Strategic Trade-offs: The judgment to balance user needs, brand voice, and business constraints - and the ability to articulate your choices to stakeholders.

• Design Systems: Experience contributing content patterns or guidelines to a design system (bonus if you've built the language portion of one yourself).

• Accessibility & Inclusion: A track record of collaborating with accessibility specialists (WCAG standards) to ensure language is clear and accessible for everyone.
