Job Summary
We are seeking a highly analytical and inquisitive Senior Tax Analyst to support the Caterpillar Indirect Tax Advisory team for Caterpillar entities in Singapore. This role involves extensive communication with the various Caterpillar businesses to understand new and existing business operations with the aim of providing advice and guidance on the key indirect tax requirements including tax treatment, invoicing and GST reporting.
The Senior Tax Analyst will be part of an established indirect tax team and work closely other members of the team, as well as the Caterpillar businesses.
What You Will Do
Indirect Tax Advisory & Compliance
- Liaise with Caterpillar businesses to understand new and existing business operations, to ensure indirect tax relevant information is gathered and potential indirect tax implications are analysed.
- Support indirect tax advice required for Caterpillar entities in Singapore with oversight by management.
- Support and advise Caterpillar Global Business Services and accounting staff in their GST compliance processes.
- Review selected GST returns, including carrying out high level reasonableness and credibility checks and providing advisory support on any matters arising to the Caterpillar businesses.
- Analyze and develop responses to support tax authority inquiries with oversight by management.
- Support the Caterpillar Indirect Tax Team in monitoring and evaluating legislative updates throughout the region.
- Lead or support indirect tax projects.
- Lead the periodic renewal of existing incentive schemes such as Major Exported Scheme via the GST compliance programme such as Assisted Self-Help Kit and Assisted Compliance Assurance Program (including coordinating with Accounting, Finance, Logistic and HR teams to obtain the required information).
What You Have
Indirect tax Technical Knowledge & Experience
o This position requires a detailed understanding of Singapore GST principles, gained via successful 5-10 years’ experience with indirect tax matters, either with a professional legal or accountancy firm and/or in industry.
o Fluency in English is required.
Accuracy and Attention to Detail: Understanding the necessity and value of accuracy; ability to complete tasks with high levels of precision. An appreciation of the critical information required to manage the indirect tax risks within an organization.
o The ability to quickly gain a very good understanding of Caterpillar’s business, the transactional flow of goods and services, both inter-company and to third parties.
o High level of organization and audit readiness
Effective Communications: Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.
o Good communication skills are essential, as dealing with senior business personnel will be expected.
o The ability to explain complex issues to diverse audiences.
o The ability to liaise with Caterpillar businesses to understand current and planned transaction flows.
o The ability to manage relationships with and gain the trust of Caterpillar staff at all levels.
o Strong collaboration skills across tax, finance and shared services teams.
o Clear and professional written and verbal communication.
Problem Solving: Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations.
o Ability to apply structured methodologies to gather facts.
o Strong analytical skills required to identify and document specific problems and resolution alternatives, including risk / benefit analysis of alternative approaches.
o Ability to examine a specific problem and understands the perspective of each involved stakeholder.
Tax Management: Knowledge of Singapore tax laws, organizational tax practices, obligations; ability to manage organization tax related issues.
o Analyzes Singapore GST implications of alternative approaches of business projects or transactions. .
o Represents the organization in GST defense actions.
o Compares an organization’s GST practices and strategies against the GST laws and regulations.
o Consults on a variety of GST related matters.
Tax Operations: Knowledge of Singapore GST practices and regulations; ability to prepare and file GST returns.
o Advises others on GST requirements and their inter-relationships.
o Facilitates resolution of all outstanding items, problems and issues with tax authorities.
o Evaluates issues and considerations in integrating GST information across lines of business.
o Evaluates pending legislation and its impact on GST reporting and operations.
o Resolves common GST-related errors and problems.

- Bachelor’s degree in Accountancy, ACCA/CPA Australia or equivalent
