Job Summary
As a Senior Scientist in the Bioprocessing R&D team, you will be primarily responsible for executing gene editing projects in mammalian bioproduction cell lines on behalf of clients, applying your expertise to design and implement targeted knockout (KO) and knock-in (KI) strategies. Working to defined project timelines and client requirements, you will bring strong technical independence and a delivery-focused mindset to ensure high-quality outcomes.
In addition to gene editing, you may also contribute to cell line development projects supporting the generation of expressing mammalian cell lines, broadening the scope of your impact within the team.
This is a hands-on, lab-based role suited to a scientist who thrives in a client-project environment, is comfortable working independently to deadlines, and brings a rigorous and methodical approach to experimental design and execution.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and execute gene editing strategies for KO and KI applications in mammalian bioproduction cell lines, planning and troubleshooting experiments to deliver high-quality, reproducible outcomes within agreed project timelines.
- Independently manage assigned project workstreams, ensuring timely delivery and maintaining clear communication with internal project teams.
- Analyse and interpret experimental data, drawing well-reasoned conclusions and proposing appropriate next steps.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date laboratory records, including laboratory notebooks and relevant technical documentation such as SOPs and experimental reports.
- Communicate scientific results clearly and concisely in internal project meetings and written reports.
- Collaborate effectively with colleagues across the Bioprocessing team and wider organisation to support project delivery.
- Where required, contribute to cell line development activities supporting the generation of expressing mammalian cell lines for client projects.
Essential Competencies & Requirements
- MSc with PhD or equivalent experience in a relevant scientific discipline (Life Sciences, Biochemical Engineering, or closely related field).
- Demonstrated, hands-on expertise in gene editing with a strong track record of designing and executing KO and KI strategies in mammalian cell lines.
- Solid molecular biology skills, including proficiency in cloning techniques (e.g., Gibson Assembly, Golden Gate Assembly), PCR, qPCR, and ddPCR.
- Proven ability to work independently, manage priorities effectively, and deliver results within defined project timelines.
- Strong experimental design and data analysis skills
- Highly organised, detail-oriented, and committed to producing reliable, reproducible scientific results.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present data clearly to internal stakeholders.
- Collaborative team player with a proactive and solution-focused approach.
Desirable Competencies & Requirements
- Experience in CHO cell line development and/or generation of expressing recombinant cell lines (stable pools and/or clones).
- Prior experience working in a client-facing or service-oriented research environment.
- Experience working in GLP or cGMP environments or a strong quality mindset aligned to regulated processes.
