Position Overview
A Senior QA Engineer at Mercari India is responsible for building quality into every stage of the software development lifecycle. The role works closely with software engineers, product managers, designers and stakeholders to improve testability, identify risks early and ensure reliable product releases.
This role goes beyond test execution and automation. The engineer is expected to define test strategies, drive automation, influence engineering decisions, improve quality processes and adopt AI-powered practices to increase productivity and quality.
The goal is to deliver high-quality, scalable and customer-focused software while strengthening quality ownership across engineering teams.
Work Responsibilities
Specific work responsibilities include:
- Develop and execute test plans, test cases and test strategies based on business and technical requirements.
- Identify, document, track, and help resolve quality risks, defects and issues.
- Design, build, and maintain scalable automation frameworks for mobile, web, API, and backend systems.
- Use AI tools and AI-powered workflows to improve test design, execution, analysis, and productivity.
- Drive functional and non-functional testing, including regression, performance, reliability, scalability, and resilience testing.
- Strengthen CI/CD quality gates and promote testability across engineering workflows.
- Analyze quality metrics, test results and product data to recommend improvements.
- Collaborate with product managers, designers, engineers, and stakeholders to ensure quality standards are met.
- Improve QA processes, testing practices, tools and automation approaches.
- Participate across the full product lifecycle, from planning and design to release and maintenance.
- Stay updated on modern QA practices, automation tools and AI-powered quality engineering trends.

Job Description
What You Will Do
- Work on improving existing product features and launching new ones from the customer’s point of view.
- Define and execute test strategies that provide high release confidence.
- Design, implement, and optimize automated tests for mobile, web, API, and backend systems.
- Apply AI tools in daily work to accelerate testing and improve engineering productivity.
- Identify quality risks early and drive mitigation plans with engineering teams.
- Coach software engineers on testing best practices and quality ownership.
- Promote an “all for quality” mindset across development teams.
- Review requirements, specifications, and product plans to provide early quality feedback.
- Use quantitative and qualitative data to identify quality gaps and improvement opportunities.
- Mentor team members and influence quality engineering practices across teams.

- Have hands-on experience with test automation frameworks and tools.
- Have strong mobile testing experience, including test design, implementation, optimization, and test management.

Requirements
Required Experience
- 7–10 years of experience in QA, quality engineering, and automation.
- Experience testing mobile applications, including test design, implementation, optimization, and test management.
- Interest in adopting AI-powered engineering practices to improve quality and productivity.
- Experience creating automated tests for at least one of the following platforms:
- Android
- iOS
- Web
- API / backend services
- Hands-on experience in functional and non-functional testing.
- Experience defining test strategies and identifying quality risks across the SDLC.
- Experience designing, implementing, or maintaining automation frameworks.
- Experience improving processes and resolving quality issues within a team.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
- QA experience in Agile Scrum-based development.
- Ability to work independently with ownership and minimal direction.
Preferred Experience
- Experience in backend/API testing and automation.
- Experience working in a CI/CD environment.
- Familiarity with AI-powered testing platforms and modern AI-assisted engineering workflows.
- Experience in web, mobile app, or backend Automation
- Experience in test tool selection, framework development, and automation optimization.
- Experience with e-commerce platforms and services.
- Experience in performance, reliability, security, scalability, resilience, or internationalization testing.
- Experience using data analysis or visualization for QA decision-making.
- Experience testing microservices-based systems.
- Experience mentoring QA engineers or influencing quality practices across engineering teams.
