About the role:

The Opportunity

Aztec is looking for an experienced compliance professional to join its Group Risk and Compliance team and oversee the compliance and financial crime agenda for its Irish regulated and supervised entities. The role will hold responsibility for the Head of Compliance, Head of Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorist Financing and Chief Risk Officer PCF positions, subject to regulatory approval.

The successful candidate will operate as an integral member of a Group-wide team, drawing on common frameworks, specialist capability, technology and shared resources. At the same time, they will bring a strong appreciation of the Irish regulatory, legal and business environment and ensure that Group standards are applied in a way that is locally effective, proportionate and responsive to Irish requirements.

Working with the Irish Boards, local management and colleagues across Aztec, the role will provide independent advice and challenge, maintain constructive relationships with relevant authorities and contribute to the continued development of Aztec’s Irish compliance framework.

Key Accountabilities

  • Operate as part of the Group Risk and Compliance team, contributing to common standards and using Group frameworks, expertise and resources effectively.

  • Provide independent, risk-based advice and challenge to the Irish Boards, local management and business teams.

  • Maintain clear local accountability and provide concise reporting on regulatory developments, monitoring outcomes, material issues and remediation.

  • Represent Irish matters in relevant Group forums and translate Group developments into appropriate local action.

  • Maintain evidence of the reasonable steps taken to discharge individual responsibilities and meet applicable fitness and probity and individual accountability requirements.

  • Maintain a current understanding of the Irish regulatory, legal and market environment relevant to Aztec’s services.

  • Assess Irish regulatory developments, oversee proportionate implementation and ensure Group policies are appropriately adapted to local requirements.

  • Act as a key contact for the Central Bank of Ireland, the Department of Justice, law enforcement and other relevant authorities.

  • Oversee regulatory notifications, returns, commitments, inspections and information requests within the role’s remit.

  • Oversee the effective implementation of the Irish compliance framework, including policies, procedures and compliance risk assessments.

  • Own the local compliance monitoring plan, aligned with Group methodology and Irish regulatory obligations.

  • Ensure monitoring findings, breaches and control weaknesses are assessed, escalated and remediated promptly.

  • Provide timely advice on regulatory requirements, new business and material change, while promoting effective first-line ownership.

  • Oversee the Irish AML/CFT, sanctions and wider financial crime framework, supported by Group standards, systems and specialist teams.

  • Maintain oversight of financial crime risk assessments, due diligence, high-risk relationships, monitoring, screening and periodic reviews.

  • Act as the principal escalation point for internal suspicious activity reports and determine whether external reporting is required.

  • Ensure material financial crime matters are reported clearly to the relevant Irish Boards and provide informed challenge on higher-risk business.

What You Will Bring

  • Strong experience in compliance and financial crime within the Irish financial services sector, ideally in investment funds, fund administration, depositary or corporate services.

  • Practical knowledge of the Irish regulatory environment, including Central Bank of Ireland requirements, AML/CFT obligations, AIFMD and relevant individual accountability expectations.

  • Experience of holding, or the standing and capability to obtain approval for, relevant Irish pre-approval controlled functions.

  • Proven ability to work effectively in a Group or matrix structure while retaining clear local ownership and accountability.

  • Experience advising and constructively challenging Boards and management, supported by clear and concise reporting.

  • Sound judgement, independence and strong stakeholder-management skills, including credibility with regulators, colleagues and clients.

  • A relevant degree or equivalent professional experience; a recognised compliance, legal or accountancy qualification would be advantageous.

How You Will Work

The role requires a visible, collaborative and commercially aware approach without compromising the independence of the control function. The successful candidate will use Group capability effectively, provide practical and timely support in Ireland, represent local priorities and translate Group developments into effective local action.
