About this opportunity:

The Sunrise Geological Development team is seeking a Senior Geologist to support the ongoing growth of the Sunrise Thermal asset. Working within an integrated, multidisciplinary team, this role is responsible for reservoir characterization, development planning, resource and reserves evaluations, and geological stewardship of future development opportunities. The successful candidate will influence development strategies, well package design, annual planning activities, and long-range growth plans through the integration of geological, engineering, and development data.

What you’ll do:

• Collaborate with integrated subsurface, development, and well delivery teams to support annual delineation programs and future development opportunities.
• Evaluate and integrate geological, petrophysical, core, and log data to characterize reservoirs and support accurate resource and reserves assessments.
• Provide geological interpretations and reservoir characterization inputs for geomodel updates, simulation studies, and development planning activities.
• Support field development planning by integrating subsurface insights with facilities, well delivery, and asset development considerations.
• Mature well packages through the stage-gate process and provide geological recommendations that influence engineering design and development decisions.
• Provide geological stewardship of future development inventories, pad layouts, and resource assessments to support annual planning and long-range outlook activities.
• Foster strong collaboration and communication across geoscience, reservoir engineering, development, and well delivery teams to ensure consistency in development practices.
• Support workflow optimization initiatives and prepare technical presentations, reviews, lookbacks, and knowledge-sharing materials.

Who you are:

Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum requirements:

• Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo.) designation with APEGA, or eligible to obtain registration.
• Minimum of 8 years of geoscience experience
• Experience in reservoir characterization, development geology, or related subsurface disciplines is considered an asset.
• Strong understanding of SAGD and thermal development practices, with direct thermal development experience preferred.
• Experienced in resource and reserves evaluations, geological interpretation, and integrating multiple subsurface datasets.
• Proficient in Petrel and other geoscience software applications used to support development and planning decisions.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams and influence decisions through technical expertise and collaboration.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills with the ability to manage uncertainty and make data-driven recommendations.
• Effective communicator who can translate complex technical information into clear recommendations while modeling Cenovus values in all interactions.
