The Difference You Make

The Senior Financial Risk Analytics Engineer plays a critical role in supporting the Bank’s reserving, stress-testing, underwriting, and financial forecasting activities. This position is responsible for designing, developing, maintaining, and enhancing data workflows, analytical solutions, and credit loss models that support regulatory compliance, risk management, and strategic decision-making. Working closely with Finance, Risk, IT, Data Management, and business partners, this role transforms complex business requirements into scalable analytical and technology solutions that drive actionable insights across the organization.

Position Summary

• Research, scope, and manage the business requirements, workflows, data needs, resource requirements, and implementation plans for CECL credit loss models supporting stress-testing, reserving, and underwriting activities.
• Design, develop, code, implement, and maintain analytical models and supporting infrastructure.
• Develop and maintain expert knowledge of Webster’s data systems, databases, tools, and reporting environments.
• Design, build, and maintain robust data workflows and automated processes that support forecasting, reserving, and risk management activities.
• Collaborate with IT, Data Management, Finance, Risk, and business partners to develop and enhance analytical solutions and reporting capabilities.
• Create user-friendly reports, dashboards, and data visualizations to support decision-making and performance monitoring.
• Anticipate, identify, and resolve data quality, workflow, and reporting challenges.
• Maintain comprehensive workpapers, model documentation, testing results, and change management records in accordance with governance, audit, and regulatory requirements.
• Author reports documenting model design, development, implementation, testing methodologies, and ongoing model enhancements.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with Lines of Business, Finance, Risk, IT, and Data partners to ensure analytical and software development requirements are effectively delivered.
• Lead and/or participate in Model Risk Management, Executive Management, Audit, Regulatory, and cross-functional planning meetings.
• Support initiatives across one or more key areas including Research & Development, Quarterly Production, and Credit Scorecard development and maintenance.

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, Information Systems, Mathematics, Statistics, Finance, Economics, or a related quantitative field. - Required
• Master's degree in a quantitative discipline. - Preferred

Professional Experience

• 10+ years of experience working with complex relational database management systems, including Oracle, SQL, or similar platforms. Required
• 10+ years of software engineering, data engineering, or analytics experience within a commercial bank or financial institution. - Required
• 5+ years of modeling, quantitative analytics, or financial analytics experience within a banking or financial services environment. - Perferred

Skills

• Proficiency in SAS and R/Python or similar analytical programming languages. - Required
• Experience designing, developing, and maintaining large-scale data workflows and automated data pipelines. - Required
• Experience supporting reserving, stress-testing, underwriting, forecasting, or risk management solutions. Perferred
• Experience participating in Model Risk Management, audit, regulatory examination, or governance processes. - Perferred
• Experience developing relationships and collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders across Finance, Risk, IT, Data, and Business functions. Perferred
• Experience with cloud-based computing platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP. - Preferred
• Experience with full-stack software development and CI/CD pipeline implementation. - Preferred
• Strong expertise working with relational databases, SQL development, and large-scale data infrastructures.
• Experience designing and maintaining data orchestration workflows using tools such as Apache Airflow or similar platforms.
• Knowledge of reporting, business intelligence, and dashboarding tools, including Tableau, Qlik Sense, or comparable solutions.
• Understanding of commercial and consumer banking products, operations, processes, and risk management practices.
• Knowledge of software engineering principles, coding standards, testing methodologies, and development best practices.
• Strong analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills.
• Knowledge of statistical modeling techniques, machine learning methodologies, optimization techniques, and predictive analytics.
• Ability to gather, document, and translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
• Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently, conduct research, and develop innovative solutions.
• Strong attention to detail, initiative, and commitment to delivering high-quality results.
• Ability to identify opportunities for process improvements and recommend scalable solutions.

It Would Be Nice For You To Have

• Established work history or equivalent demonstrated through a combination of work experience, training, military service, or education.
• Advanced knowledge of statistical theory, including linear models, categorical data analysis, time-series forecasting, optimization techniques, and machine learning methodologies.
• Experience supporting CECL, stress-testing, underwriting, credit scorecards, or other regulatory modeling frameworks.
• Experience with cloud-native analytics and modern data engineering architectures.
• Proven ability to think creatively and develop innovative approaches to solving complex business and data challenges.

What Else You Need To Know:

The base pay range for this position is posted below and represents the annualized salary range. For hourly positions (non-exempt), the annual range is based on a 40-hour work week. The exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, training, licensure and certifications and location.
