Resonant Link Medical · Sur site · Boston, Massachusetts, United States

Who We Are:

Resonant Link Medical is pioneering the future of wireless power and data transfer for implantable medical devices to help people get well and stay well. We’re committed to revolutionizing patient care by delivering high-performance, reliable, and efficient wireless charging solutions that eliminate the burden of frequent battery-replacement surgeries, improve patient outcomes, and enable better care outside hospital settings. We’ve designed our first-of-its-kind wireless charging technology into more than 50 types of medical devices and support customers around the world from our offices in Burlington, Vermont; Cambridge, Massachusetts; and Zurich, Switzerland.

We are seeking a Senior Embedded Engineer to join our growing team. In this role, you will own embedded implementation for customer-integration programs, adapting Resonant Link Medical’s implant software across a variety of customer applications, MCU platforms, and hardware architectures. You will develop low-level drivers, hardware–software interfaces, control functions, and communications capabilities while supporting firmware bring-up, system integration, and verification. You will work hands-on in the lab to diagnose complex hardware–firmware interactions and use MCU peripherals such as timers, DMA, hardware compare, and digital communication interfaces within bare-metal or RTOS-based systems.

Working closely with our platform, electrical, systems, and test engineers, you will carry customer programs from requirements through verified implementation. You will communicate directly with customer engineering teams, produce clear and complete technical documentation, and identify opportunities to reuse software, tools, and test methods across programs. Your work will enable our core embedded platforms to scale across a growing portfolio of implantable medical devices while directly shaping the performance, reliability, and successful delivery of each customer system.

At Resonant Link Medical, we’re committed to building a collaborative culture that spans disciplines and geographies. To help us deliver on our mission, we’re looking for detail-oriented problem solvers and empathetic team players who are accountable, self-directed, and comfortable working in a quickly growing and evolving business. If you thrive in a high-impact, hands-on environment and are excited to help advance promising medical technology, this is the role for you.

Your typical day will involve…

  • Owning embedded implementation for customer programs, carrying defined workstreams from requirements through development, bring-up, verification, and delivery.
  • Adapting RLM’s embedded software across customer applications, including evaluating and bringing up new MCUs, working within RTOS environments, and integrating customer-specific hardware.
  • Developing low-level firmware and hardware interfaces, using timers, DMA, hardware compare, communication peripherals, and other MCU capabilities to implement reliable control and communication functions.
  • Rolling up your sleeves in the lab to bring up, test, and debug embedded systems using disciplined, methodical engineering practices.
  • Resolving complex hardware–firmware interactions across microcontrollers, sensors, power electronics, and communication interfaces, driving issues through root-cause identification and resolution.
  • Producing clear and complete technical documentation, including requirements, design decisions, interface definitions, test methods, verification results, risks, and open issues.
  • Working directly with customers and cross-functional teams to communicate technical decisions, provide timely progress updates, and deliver integrated solutions that meet program requirements.
  • Collaborating with platform and test engineers to apply RLM’s core embedded architecture, accelerate troubleshooting, and develop useful test automation and diagnostic tools.
  • Improving reuse and engineering rigor by identifying software, tools, test methods, and development practices that can be applied across multiple customer programs.

Requirements

Required Qualifications:

  • Strong experience in embedded software and firmware development, with a track record of delivering working, verified systems on resource-constrained microcontrollers.
  • Proficiency in embedded C, with the ability to write clear, maintainable, and testable production code.
  • Strong circuit-level understanding of embedded systems and the ability to interpret schematics, datasheets, timing diagrams, and hardware specifications.
  • Hands-on experience with firmware and hardware bring-up, debugging, and verification using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, JTAG/SWD debuggers, and other laboratory tools.
  • Practical experience with RTOS-based and bare-metal systems, including task scheduling, interrupts, concurrency, timing, and resource management.
  • Deep familiarity with MCU peripherals, including timers, DMA, hardware compare, ADCs, PWM, GPIO, and communication interfaces such as SPI, I²C, and UART.
  • Ability to evaluate and adapt quickly across different MCUs, development environments, and hardware platforms.
  • Experience implementing and debugging hardware–software interfaces, device drivers, control functions, and embedded communication protocols.
  • Disciplined, methodical problem-solving skills and the ability to independently drive complex technical issues through root-cause resolution.
  • Excellent technical documentation skills, including requirements, interface definitions, design decisions, test methods, and verification results.
  • Clear, effective communication with customers and multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with power electronics, closed-loop control, or wireless power-transfer systems.
  • Experience developing software under an IEC 62304-compliant lifecycle.
  • Experience designing or validating embedded systems for active implantable or other high-reliability medical devices.
  • Familiarity with relevant medical-device standards and regulatory requirements, such as IEC 60601 and ISO 14708.

Values and Culture Add:

  • High-Drive and Self-Motivated: You take ownership of your work, thrive in a fast-paced environment, and can manage tasks with minimal supervision while meeting objectives.
