Position Summary
The Senior Electrical Engineer, Site Infrastructure serves as a technical owner and subject-matter expert for the site's critical electrical infrastructure. This individual will own and advance medium-voltage and high-power distribution, electrical system automation and controls, electrical system reliability, capital projects, commissioning, troubleshooting, and long-term infrastructure planning for a large-scale, continuously operating manufacturing campus.
We welcome candidates from biopharmaceutical manufacturing as well as adjacent industries such as semiconductor fabrication, data centers, utilities, advanced manufacturing, energy, and engineering or construction services. Direct GMP experience is helpful but not required. Candidates with strong critical-power and industrial electrical experience will be supported in learning the applicable regulated manufacturing requirements.
This is an onsite technical leadership role that is currently an individual-contributor position, with significant system ownership and cross-functional influence. The role may evolve in the future to include a reporting engineering team. The role is well suited for an engineer who wants to own systems through their full lifecycle, lead meaningful infrastructure investments, apply high-power and electrical automation expertise to critical systems, and support reliable operations connected to the delivery of medicines to patients.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Serve as the technical owner and electrical engineering subject-matter expert for assigned site infrastructure and utility systems.
- Provide engineering oversight for medium-voltage and high-power distribution, power infrastructure, electrical equipment, emergency systems, and associated site utilities.
- Lead the specification, integration, and lifecycle management of electrical system automation, controls, and monitoring (for example, power monitoring, supervisory control, and protection and metering systems) in coordination with controls and automation partners.
- Lead or support electrical projects from concept and scope development through design, construction, commissioning, startup, and operational handover.
- Develop and review technical requirements, specifications, drawings, equipment selections, and engineering documentation.
- Perform or oversee power-system studies, such as short-circuit, protective-device coordination, arc-flash, and load-flow analysis, to support safe and reliable operation and system changes.
- Troubleshoot complex electrical-system issues and partner with operations and maintenance teams to improve reliability and reduce downtime.
- Coordinate with internal stakeholders, engineering partners, contractors, equipment suppliers, and the local electrical utility provider.
- Support infrastructure planning, system-capacity assessments, equipment lifecycle strategies, and capital-investment recommendations.
- Provide electrical engineering support for site changes, investigations, inspections, and compliance activities.
- Review commissioning documents, system turnover packages, as-built drawings, preventive-maintenance requirements, and operating procedures.
- Promote effective collaboration and ensure engineering work is completed safely, reliably, and in alignment with site priorities.
- Provide technical direction and mentorship to project teams and peers. This role does not currently have direct reports but may include leading an engineering team in the future.
- Support a continuously operating facility, including participation in the established escalation or on-call model and occasional off-hours support for critical events, planned shutdowns, and major project activities.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant technical experience.
- Demonstrated technical leadership, including mentoring engineers and directing technical work across project teams, vendors, and contractors.
- At least 8 years of electrical engineering experience supporting large-scale industrial, manufacturing, utility, or critical-infrastructure operations.
- Hands-on experience with medium-voltage or high-voltage electrical distribution systems, including power distribution, switchgear, substations, transformers, protection systems, emergency power, or related infrastructure.
- Experience with electrical system automation, controls, or monitoring (for example, power monitoring, supervisory control, or protective-relay communications) for power distribution and electrical infrastructure.
- Working knowledge of applicable electrical codes and standards (for example, NFPA 70, NFPA 70E, and IEEE standards) and of power-system analysis, including short-circuit, protective-device coordination, and arc-flash studies.
- Experience serving as a technical lead, system owner, project engineer, or subject-matter expert for electrical systems.
- Experience troubleshooting electrical systems and supporting equipment reliability in an operating facility.
- Experience developing technical scopes, specifications, user requirements, or design requirements for electrical infrastructure projects.
- Experience supporting projects through design, installation, commissioning, startup, and operational handover.
- Ability to read and interpret single-line diagrams, electrical drawings, equipment specifications, and technical documentation.
- Ability to coordinate across operations, maintenance, engineering, safety, vendors, contractors, and other technical stakeholders.
- Ability to manage multiple technical priorities and provide support for a continuously operating site, including occasional off-hours support for significant electrical issues or planned project activities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in biopharmaceutical, pharmaceutical, semiconductor, data center, utility, chemical, energy, or advanced-manufacturing environments.
- Experience working in a regulated or highly controlled operating environment.
- Experience leading, coaching, and developing engineers, including work prioritization, performance feedback, and team development, as the role may include direct reports in the future.
- Familiarity with GMP, commissioning, qualification, validation, change control, deviation, or CAPA processes.
- Experience with 13.8 kV electrical distribution or comparable medium-voltage infrastructure.
- Experience with fire-alarm, fire-suppression, emergency-power, or building utility systems.
- Experience with power-system analysis software (for example, ETAP or SKM) or 3D plant-design or engineering-modeling software.
- Professional Engineer license.
