Position Description:
The Senior Accountant is responsible for supporting the Company's accounting operations with primary emphasis on cost accounting, inventory accounting, and month-end closing activities. The position works closely with Accounting, Operations, Supply Chain, and Manufacturing to ensure accurate product costs, inventory valuation, account reconciliations, and financial reporting. In a small manufacturing environment, the Senior Accountant is expected to be hands-on, analytical, and actively involved in daily accounting activities while operating efficiently and consistently with the Jankel Tactical Systems Business Plan.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain and analyze standard and actual product costs, including direct materials, direct labor, manufacturing overhead, and cost variances
- Support inventory accounting for raw materials, work-in-process, and finished goods, including reconciliations, cycle counts, physical inventories, reserves, and valuation adjustments
- Review manufacturing transactions, inventory movements, work orders, and production variances to ensure accurate and timely recording in the general ledger
- Support the monthly close process, including preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, inventory and cost-of-sales analysis, and supporting schedules
- Analyze gross margins, manufacturing costs, purchase price variances, labor and overhead variances, and job or product profitability
- Reconcile inventory subledgers and other supporting records to the general ledger and investigate and resolve discrepancies
- Assist with preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reporting
- Maintain appropriate documentation and internal controls over inventory, costing, and financial close processes
- Support external audits, government contract audits, and other financial or compliance reviews by preparing schedules and supporting documentation
- Assist with accounting system and process improvements, including effective use of Deltek Costpoint and related manufacturing and inventory processes
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment
- Strong cost accounting and inventory accounting experience, including standard costing, inventory valuation, and manufacturing variance analysis
- Demonstrated experience supporting month-end close, general ledger reconciliations, journal entries, and financial reporting
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and internal controls; familiarity with government contract accounting is preferred
- Experience with ERP/accounting systems; Deltek Costpoint experience strongly preferred
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail
- Ability to work effectively across Accounting, Operations, Supply Chain, and Manufacturing functions
- Ability to meet frequent deadlines and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Eligible for US Security Clearance to minimum SECRET
- Familiarity with FAR, DFARS, and CAS a plus
