DEPARTMENT: STEP - Science and Technology Entry Program                

LOCATION: Kenney Center for Community Engagement and Outreach

STUDENT SUPERVISORS: Kevin Trigonis

WORK AVAILABLE: Week Days/Possible Weekends

RATE OF PAY: $12.70/hr

The Science and Technology Entry Program was established in 1985 by the NYS Legislature to prepare historically underrepresented and economically disadvantaged students for entry into post-secondary degree programs in math, science, technology, health-related fields, and licensed professions. 

POSSIBLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Tutor students in grades 7-12 to enhance their academic support system

• In-person Mentor at Schenectady Middle Schools (Tuesday/Thursday 3-5pm)

• Help run Saturday STEM workshops (usually 9am-1pm)

• Report notes to the STEP Staff

• Help with administrative work within the department

• Create programming and experiences for the STEP Students

QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE POSITION:

• Looking for personable, trustworthy and detail-oriented individuals

• Great overall communication skills

• Able to communicate well in-person, over the phone, or over Zoom

• Must be passionate about working with students in grades 7-12

• Proficient with utilizing Zoom and Excel
