About the Team

The Sanitation team works closely with Food Safety and Quality Assurance, Culinary, Operations, Maintenance, Fulfillment, and Supply Chain to maintain clean, safe, and inspection-ready facilities.

The Role

CookUnity is seeking a hands-on Sanitation Supervisor to lead daily sanitation activities and ensure production areas and equipment are cleaned, sanitized, inspected, and released according to established requirements.

Reporting to the Sanitation Manager, this position will assign work, supervise sanitation associates, verify cleaning effectiveness, maintain accurate records, and escalate conditions that may affect food safety or production.

The ideal candidate is an organized and proactive leader who can coach employees, enforce standards, and manage sanitation priorities in a fast-paced food-production environment.

This is a full-time onsite role that may require second- or third-shift coverage, weekends, and holidays. Fluency in English and Spanish is required.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise sanitation associates during the assigned shift and coordinate assignments, breaks, attendance, and shift handoffs.
  • Ensure all cleaning activities follow SSOPs, the Master Sanitation Plan, equipment-cleaning procedures, and required frequencies.
  • Inspect equipment, utensils, production rooms, coolers, drains, floors, walls, storage areas, and employee facilities.
  • Partner with FSQA to verify that equipment and production areas meet pre-operational requirements before release.
  • Ensure proper chemical dilution, labeling, handling, storage, PPE use, and Safety Data Sheet compliance.
  • Train and coach employees on sanitation procedures, chemical safety, equipment disassembly and reassembly, allergen changeovers, and tool control.
  • Verify completion and accuracy of sanitation logs, chemical-concentration records, training documents, and corrective actions.
  • Address deficiencies identified through inspections, ATP testing, environmental monitoring, pest-control reviews, audits, or operational observations.
  • Immediately escalate food safety hazards, pest activity, equipment damage, drainage problems, chemical concerns, or conditions that could delay production.
  • Verify allergen-changeover cleaning and ensure required verification is completed before equipment is released.
  • Monitor cleaning chemicals, PPE, sanitation tools, and supplies and communicate replenishment needs.
  • Ensure sanitation equipment and tools are properly cleaned, maintained, stored, and accounted for.
  • Support regulatory inspections, customer visits, internal audits, and third-party certification audits.
  • Provide timely coaching, document performance concerns, and escalate attendance or disciplinary issues to the Sanitation Manager.
  • Identify opportunities to improve cleaning effectiveness, employee safety, labor efficiency, and sanitation processes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support Sanitation, FSQA, and facility operations.

Qualifications

  • At least two years of sanitation experience in food processing, food manufacturing, commercial kitchens, or another regulated environment.
  • At least one year of experience as a sanitation lead, supervisor, or team leader preferred.
  • Fluency in English and Spanish required.
  • Working knowledge of GMPs, SSOPs, HACCP, allergen controls, chemical safety, FDA requirements, FSMA, and applicable GFSI standards.
  • Experience using sanitation chemicals, dispensing systems, foamers, pressure-washing equipment, and commercial cleaning tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to assign work, train employees, provide coaching, and hold team members accountable.
  • Strong organizational, communication, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Basic proficiency with Google Workspace and electronic sanitation or inspection systems.
  • Ability to work second or third shift, weekends, holidays, and extended hours based on production needs.
  • Collaboration & Communication: Strong cross-functional collaboration skills, with the ability to work closely with FSQA, Supply Chain, and Operations teams.
  • Flexibility & Travel: Ability to travel as needed and provide on-site leadership across multiple shifts.

Physical and Work Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to bend, reach, climb, push, pull, and lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in wet, hot, cold, and refrigerated environments.
  • Ability to work safely around food-processing equipment, chemicals, water, steam, and elevated noise levels.
  • Ability to wear all required personal protective equipment.
