In the Surgical Float Pool, you will work with diverse populations of patients in numerous surgical units, departments and/or locations while learning from many of our best caregivers. As a Registered Nurse on this team, you will play a vital role in ensuring patients are safely prepared, supported, and comfortable throughout every stage of their surgical journey. Your clinical expertise, attention to detail, and compassionate approach help create a positive patient experience, providing reassurance and comfort during what can often be a challenging and emotional time.

This RN position is part of Cleveland Clinic’s Weekender Flex Program and will require you to work two 12-hour shifts per weekend and one 12-hour day shift during the week. While you are only working 36 hours a week, Cleveland Clinic will pay you for 44 hours of work and give you full-time status and benefits. This schedule allows caregivers to enjoy personal time during the week with family and friends and take care of any errands that will not interfere with a typical day shift schedule.

A caregiver in this position works weekend days (Saturday and Sunday) + one day shift during the week from 7:00 a.m. – 7:30 p.m. and 9:00 a.m. – 9:30 p.m. Orientation will be completed on day shift.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

• Deliver professional nursing care in an operative setting to adult and pediatric patients undergoing surgical or other invasive procedures.  

• Perform scrub functions, such as selecting and handling instruments and supplies. 

• Perform circulating functions, such as monitoring, recording and communicating patient condition and managing the overall nursing care of patients before, during and after the procedure.  

• Assist the operating physician with surgical tasks, such as hemostasis, suturing, wound exposure and patient positioning.  

• Prepare the Operating Room, surgical instruments and surgical equipment for use.  

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

• Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing (ADN or BSN program)  

• Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)  

• Licensed military RN experience will be considered  

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross 
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within 6 months of hire
• One year RN experience required or completion of Cleveland Clinic perioperative residency program.

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: 

• Bachelor of science in nursing (BSN)
• OR experience in circulating and scrubbing
