Team Overview

The TransUnion UK Risk function serves as a second line function, supporting the business in identifying, understanding, and managing its risks in accordance with approved policies and risk appetite. The team promotes risk awareness and a positive culture of compliance by providing guidance and engaging effectively with stakeholders across the business. Reporting to the Head of Risk & Resilience, the Risk Manager will help develop TransUnion UK’s risk-management capabilities and maintain alignment between the UK Risk Management Framework and TransUnion Global requirements. This is a hybrid position and involves regular performance of job responsibilities virtually as well as in-person at an assigned TU office location for a minimum of two days a week.

 

Role Overview And Core Responsibilities

• Act as a risk-management subject matter expert, advising and guiding stakeholders across the organization so they can effectively identify, articulate, assess, record, and manage their risk exposures.
• Support significant business-change initiatives by providing risk-management guidance, identifying potential exposures, and helping ensure that appropriate governance and controls are established.
• Provide independent challenge on risk matters and work with risk owners to maintain fit-for-purpose risk metrics, measures, reporting, and corrective-action plans.
• Conduct risk-focused reviews and projects to assess potential risks, control effectiveness, governance arrangements, and issues affecting functional areas or business activities.
• Prepare and maintain accurate documentation evidencing the scope, assessment, findings, conclusions, and completion of risk-focused reviews.
• Produce high-quality papers, reports, and Management Information dashboard outputs for risk-governance committees and forums.
• Support UK regulatory interactions and assist with preparing accurate, clear, and high-quality documents for submission to regulators.
• Maintain and develop the TransUnion UK Risk Management Framework, provide subject matter feedback during policy reviews, and support continued alignment with TransUnion Global requirements.
• Collaborate with Internal Audit, Compliance, Legal, Data Governance, and the wider Risk team to provide appropriate oversight of material risk exposures and identify opportunities to improve control-monitoring methods and systems.

 

Required Knowledge And Experiences

• Strong knowledge of risk-management principles and techniques, supported by significant experience and a demonstrated record of working within the risk function, or a comparable function, of a Financial Conduct Authority-regulated firm.
• Demonstrated ability to understand complex information, solve problems, propose practical solutions, work independently, and constructively challenge established approaches.
• Strong analytical and organizational capabilities, with the ability to manage multiple activities, maintain attention to detail, and deliver work within established deadlines.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience preparing governance papers, reports, review documentation, and presentations for senior stakeholders and committees.
• Strong interpersonal and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to explain complex risk issues clearly and engage effectively with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
  

Required Technical Skills

• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel for analysing information and preparing risk-management metrics, measures, and Management Information outputs.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word and Microsoft PowerPoint for preparing risk-review documentation, governance papers, regulatory materials, reports, and presentations.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook to manage stakeholder communications, meetings, deadlines, and concurrent risk activities.
• Ability to prepare and maintain accurate Management Information dashboards and supporting documentation for risk-governance committees and forums.

• Working knowledge of the UK financial-services sector and Financial Conduct Authority regulation.
• Knowledge of data-management environments, with the ability to make critical observations and identify continual-improvement opportunities.
• Understanding of UK data-protection requirements, including the UK General Data Protection Regulation and the Data Protection Act 2018.
• Understanding of Credit Reference Agency data and its associated risk considerations.
• Experience developing or improving risk oversight, control-monitoring methods, systems, or reporting processes.
