Exciting Opportunity at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center: Join the Philipp Niethammer Lab as a Research Technician!

The Niethammer lab studies how cells sense physical stress and tissue injury—and how they communicate with immune cells to coordinate healing. We investigate these questions using zebrafish, human cells, microscopy, genetics, and molecular biology.

Role Overview:

• Laboratory Support: Prepare and maintain lab equipment, instruments, solutions, stains, assays, and other essential supplies.
• Techniques & Assays: Perform specialized techniques, such as CRISPR screening, flow cytometry, sterile mammalian tissue culture, cellular transfection (lipofectamine), molecular protein design and engineering,  fluorescent Imaging, paraffin tissue processing & embedding.
• Animal Handling: Conduct animal studies, including injections, tissue/fluids collection, and animal autopsies, euthanasia, animal-handling and nursery.
• Data Management: Record and analyze research data, prepare reports, and provide insights to the research team.
• Collaboration: Assist peers and researchers with ongoing projects, fostering a team-oriented, supportive environment.
  

Key Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in biology/life sciences.
• Experience with tissue culture and molecular biology techniques.
• Comfort working with zebrafish larvae or adult specimens, including monitoring, behavioral scoring, genotyping, and tailfin amputation.

• Attention to detail and strong record-keeping habits. 
• Ability to follow protocols while troubleshooting when needed. 
• Strong scientific curiosity with a proactive approach to learning.
• Team-oriented approach to supporting postdocs and fellow researchers.
