The Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Department have an exciting opportunity for a part-time Research Assistant to work on-site in Miami, FL.

CORE JOB SUMMARY
The Research Assistant 1 contributes to research investigators by providing research and experimentation support while following established protocols. The Research Assistant 1 performs a clerical role to ensure the smooth operations of office facilities.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS

• 1. Sets up and operates various scientific apparatus and makes minor repairs.

• 2. Prepares correspondence and answers phones.

• 3. Formulates and maintains bibliographies and completes applications and forms.

• 4. Orders laboratory supplies and maintains culture media reagents.

• 5. Reviews and edits various materials for publication and prepares publication schedules.

• 6. Maintains appropriate logs, records, and study notebooks.

• 7. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Department Functions

• Investigate the role of three-dimensional chromosomal architecture in cancer development and progression.

• Maintain, propagate, and bank mammalian cell lines using strict aseptic techniques.  

• Execute cell treatments (e.g., drug assays, conditions, or genetic perturbations) according to established experimental designs.

• Perform routine molecular biology techniques, including Western blotting , RNA extraction/ preparation, and quantitative PCR.

• Prepare general laboratory reagents, buffers, and media; assist in maintaining laboratory stock and monitoring inventory Draft, update and organize standard operating procedures (SOPs) and experimental protocols Seek guidance and mentorship from postdocs and PhD students when designing new protocols or modifying existing workflows.

• Maintain a meticulous, up-to-date, and well-organized electronic or physical laboratory notebook.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent/relevant experience, certification or license

Experience:
Minimum 1 year of relevant experience required
