POSITION SUMMARY

The Department of Equity, Ethics and Policy is seeking a highly motivated Research Assistant 2 to support research on the impacts of heat exposure and health among school-aged children in Ghana, while contributing to a broader portfolio of faculty-led research projects in climate change and health.

Working closely with faculty members and research team collaborators, the successful candidate will contribute to study implementation, data management, statistical analysis, interpretation of findings, and dissemination of research outputs. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work on internationally focused public health research at the intersection of climate change, environmental health, and epidemiology.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conducts research projects using established protocols, procedures, and methods with increasing independence. Supports and independently carries out research activities for studies of heat exposure and health among school-aged children in Ghana, including fieldwork preparation, study implementation, data collection, study coordination, and adherence to research protocols.

  • Oversees and assists with the development and execution of research activities. Monitors/assists with the study operations, prepares research documentation, supports data collection activities, monitors project timelines and deliverables, and liaises with research staff, collaborators, and centre members to facilitate successful project implementation.

  • Analyzes and interprets research data and disseminates results. Manages, cleans, quality-assures, links, and analyzes environmental, health, and survey data using established statistical methods and software; contributes to the interpretation of findings and preparation of research reports, presentations, tables, figures, manuscripts, and other research outputs.

  • May write theoretical or methodological reports, papers, or articles related to research activities. Conducts literature reviews and knowledge syntheses and contributes to manuscripts, reports, conference presentations, policy-relevant materials, and other scholarly products arising from the Ghana project and related Centre research initiatives.

  • May provide technical guidance and training to research staff and students in the execution of research activities. Supports and mentors junior research assistants and students, provides guidance on research procedures, data management practices, and study operations, and contributes to training activities as appropriate.

  • Recommends and implements improvements to research processes and data management practices. Identifies opportunities to improve research workflows, data quality procedures, documentation processes, and project coordination activities to support efficient and rigorous research implementation.

  • Performs various administrative tasks related to research projects and Centre operations. Supports the administrative functions of the Centre for Climate Change and Health, including organizing meetings and events, preparing communications, maintaining study and Centre records, facilitating engagement with Centre members and collaborators, and assisting with routine operational activities.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree in Epidemiology, Environmental Science, or a related discipline.

  • Demonstrated research experience in public health, environmental health, or a related field, including study coordination, participant recruitment, data collection, data management, and quantitative and/or qualitative data analysis.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare research materials, reports, presentations, and knowledge dissemination products for diverse audiences.

  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with experience interacting effectively with research participants, community partners, and multidisciplinary research teams.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within interdisciplinary and multicultural research environments.

  • Strong organizational and project coordination skills, including the ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing research priorities.

  • Demonstrated attention to detail, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities, with a commitment to maintaining high standards of research quality and integrity.
