JOB CONTEXT:
Since January 2024, HI has been responding to Sudan’s crisis. HI’s joint multisectoral response in Gedaref State, implemented with a Sudanese partner NGO, is already providing physical and functional rehabilitation services in healthcare centers and at community level, as well as MHPSS services, including individual and group counselling. HI is further engaged at the humanitarian coordination level to mainstream disability inclusion throughout the humanitarian response.

HI is scaling up its response from both geographic and modalities/sectorial perspectives.  In particular, HI has deployed emergency response teams in Darfur, to setup its operations and initiate its response in the western parts of Sudan.  Since 2026, HI team is also active in other sectors such as Functional and Physical rehabilitation, and mutualized logistics. The advertised vacancy is to be part of that team.

The main office is currently in Tawila, North Darfur, but HI is also operational in Geneina, West Darfur, and exploring having an operational presence in Nyala, South Darfur.

 

YOUR MISSION:

Under the direct supervision of the Project Manager, as Stimulation therapy Technical Officer you are responsible for overseeing the implementation of project’ stimulation therapy activities for under five malnourished children.

Your role involves providing technical expertise and ensuring strict adherence to HI’s established stimulation therapy protocols by the project’s physiotherapists.

You lead the stimulation therapy for malnourished children initial training for the project’s rehabilitation professionals and ensure their continuous follow up and mentorship.

You are responsible for fostering a culture of continuous child development stimulation among parents and caregivers, and for guiding the physiotherapists in educating parents/caregivers on age appropriate and needs based stimulation techniques. You work closely with nutritional actors targeted by the project.

In this framework, your main missions are :


Mission 1: Providing guidance and technical support to project in accordance with the technical frameworks and general standards of your sectoral scope

a. Provide appropriate technical guidance and support to project leaders and/or specialists.

b. Ensure project(s) Stimulation therapy of malnourished children activities are implemented in accordance with quality and established protocols and propose adjustments or improvements as necessary.

c. Adapt project documentation as required, in accordance with Stimulation therapy of malnourished children technical standards and norms.

d. Develop stimulation therapy tools and ensure their availability

e. Contribute to the regular reporting of stimulation therapy of malnourished children activities (collection and analysis of stimulation therapy data collected) in conjunction with the project team and the MEAL team.

f. Coordinate and collaborate with the nutrition actors as delegated by the Project Manager.

Mission 2: Providing project-based technical learning

a. Ensure global and field technical specialists get the information they need and collaborate with technical divisions as needed.

b. Collect the elements necessary for capitalization exercises or scientific documentation.

c. Contribute to technical learning under the responsibility of the specialist or project manager, based on best practices.

d. Responsible for the technical learning of projects based on lessons learned and good practices

e. Adjust activities to audit recommendations as appropriate.

f. Implement recommendations to improve the technical quality of projects.

g. Ensure the technical quality and relevance of project activities implemented within their area of expertise; conduct self-evaluation of their project and participate in evaluation cycles under the supervision of the PM.

h. Taking ownership of norms and standards anticipates and prepares for nexus adjustments.

i. Propose research and study topics.

j. Oversee data collection for research activities.

k. Contribute to the terms of reference for evaluations.

 

Mission 3: Contributing to the animation of your sector

a. Contribute to technical recruitment.

b. Lead the stimulation therapy initial training 

c. Contribute to the skills upgrading plan for professionals in its sector and may be a third-party assessor.

d. May contribute to the development of a local talent pool within his/her sector (conducts technical interviews of candidates and makes recommendations, identifies training and coaching needs).

e. Assists in coordinating technical professional development and facilitating a community of practice, in collaboration with the technical division. Conducts technical trainings for staff as appropriate.

f. Contribute to the design and collection of operational data to ensure adequate monitoring of activities or ad hoc data collection activities, and ensure appropriate measurement of project completion in his/her area of expertise.

g. Ensure that data processing is established and carried out in accordance with the rules and principles set by the IM/MEAL and by the technical councils of the sector of expertise.

 

Mission 4: Contribute to ensure the technical influence of HI on its perimeter

a. Contribute to the outreach of HI expertise: Represent HI Stimulation therapy technical expertise by delegation in relevant local, regional and international networks and with local nutrition partners.

b. Where appropriate, coordinate and collaborate with the project's technical partners as delegated by the Specialist or Project Manager.

c. Relay and contribute to advocacy messages within its scope of work.

d. Write new project content for the continuity or expansion of the project within its technical scope.

e. Contribute to the writing of new proposals for new opportunities within its technical scope.

 

Mission 5: Emergency Preparedness and Response Responsibilities

Contribute to the support or implementation of emergency preparedness actions of the program(s) and, during an emergency, adapts his/her work modality in order to contribute to an effective HI humanitarian response.

CHARACTERISTICS OF THE POSITION:

The situation in Tawilah is relatively calm. There is no conflict at present. The town is relatively isolated; it takes two days by car to reach the Sudanese town near the border with Chad. There are risks of waterborne diseases. The entire security package is up to date and there is a HAS (Security) and a liaison officer present on the base. The route to reach the base goes via: N'djamena (international flight) then NDJ to Adré via UNHAS flights and finally by car to the Geneina’s base (west Darfur). Then, 2 days by road to reach Tawilah. In terms of conditions, the teams are housed in a collective guesthouse, in the same building as our offices.

Requirements

  • You hold a Bachelor’s degree in physiotherapy with Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience in pediatric or physical rehabilitation care;
  • You have a good knowledge of stimulation therapy approach developed by HI;
  • You have a good knowledge of stimulation therapy protocols and national and international nutrition rehabilitation guidelines;
  • You have experience in a humanitarian organization; an experience in working with hospitals and rehabilitation center setting is desirable;
  • You have experience in training trainers’ certification in childhood development stimulation including stimulation therapy;
  • Knowledge of English is essential; Arabic will be an asset;
  • You are able to work in a multidisciplinary team.

  • 12 months International contract starting from November 1st 2026;

  • Salary from 2345 € gross/month upon experience;
  • Perdiem: 706 € net/month - paid in the field;
  • Hardship: 500 € net/month paid with your salary;
  • Paid leaves: 25 days per year;
  • R&R: 5 days every 8 weeks + possible transport/package support;
  • Position unaccompanied:
    • Payment for travel costs (air ticket & visa) and transport of your personal effects; (from 12 months of mission);
    • Mission of more than 12 months: a child allowance of 100€ per month, per child (from the second child) paid in the field;
  • Housing: Collective taken in charge by HI;
  • If you are resident in the country: local package.
