A Brief Overview

Reporting to the SVP, New Business Enablement, EMEA, the Regional Head of Underwriting, Claims & Biometric Risk is responsible for the strategic leadership and oversight of the underwriting, claims and medical functions across the EMEA region. The role establishes and executes a regional strategy that enhances client value, drives operational excellence and positions the business to reimagine how underwriting, claims and biometric risk are delivered in the future. A key focus of the role is to challenge existing practices, unlock new ways of working, and lead innovation across technology, biometrics, data and analytics, while building the talent and capability required to deliver a forward-looking, consistent and commercially impactful regional operating model. This includes defining and executing the region's biometric risk strategy, using advanced analytics, emerging data sources, predictive modelling and strategic partnerships to transform underwriting and claims practices, identify new opportunities and develop innovative reinsurance solutions. The role also leads, coaches and develops senior functional leaders, builds regional technical capability and succession pipelines, and creates a high-performance culture focused on accountability, innovation, collaboration and client outcomes.


What you will do

• Develop and implement a unified EMEA underwriting, claims, medical and biometric risk strategy aligned with regional, enterprise and commercial objectives, including a comprehensive multi-year biometric risk agenda that extends RGA’s market leadership and identifies strategic actions to optimise profitability while maintaining a risk profile consistent with business strategy.
• Drive transformation and continuous improvement across people, processes and systems, in alignment with global and regional stakeholders. Leverage AI, data and technology to enable end-to-end processes to improve productivity and deliver efficiency gains.
• Establish clear ownership, accountability, governance, decision-making frameworks and operating model principles across the region, ensuring that priorities are clearly set, execution is coordinated, and outcomes remain aligned with regional, global and enterprise objectives.
• Identify, appoint and mobilise the key leaders, technical experts and subject matter experts required to deliver the regional operating model, ensuring the right capabilities, decision rights and accountabilities are in place to support effective execution across underwriting, claims, medical and biometric risk.
• Act as the senior functional leader for underwriting, claims, medical and biometric risk activities across EMEA, fostering collaboration, knowledge sharing, continuous improvement and consistent execution across markets.
• Extend RGA’s leading biometric expertise into how the business prices, selects and manages risk, embedding biometric insights into critical business functions and supporting profitable growth opportunities.
• Leverage advanced analytics, emerging data sources, predictive modelling and strategic partnerships to identify new opportunities, enhance underwriting and claims practices, and pioneer innovative reinsurance and biometric solutions.
• Influence and support a research and innovation agenda that anticipates emerging biometric trends, regulatory changes and medical advancements, creating new market propositions, reinsurance solutions and monetisation pathways.
• Strengthen RGA’s market position through thought leadership, technical expertise and strategic client engagement.
• Forge strategic partnerships with technology firms, data aggregators, academic institutions and other external partners to strengthen biometric capabilities and identify new opportunities for innovation and commercial application.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Arts/Sciences (BA/BS) Actuarial Science, Medicine, Data Science, Statistics, Business, Finance, Risk Management or a related field required
• Postgraduate qualification, MBA, actuarial fellowship, medical qualification or equivalent professional qualification relevant to life and health insurance, reinsurance, biometric risk, underwriting, claims, analytics or risk management preferred
• 10+ Years Senior experience in life and health insurance or reinsurance, with significant exposure to underwriting, claims, medical risk, biometric risk, actuarial modelling, pricing or enterprise risk management required
• Proven experience in a senior leadership role, including the development and execution of strategic, operational and transformation initiatives across multiple markets or functions required
• Demonstrated experience leading complex operating model, governance, innovation or technology-enabled change initiatives required
• Strong track record of leveraging advanced analytics, predictive modelling, emerging data sources and technology to improve risk assessment, underwriting practices, claims insights and business outcomes required
• Experience working with executive leadership teams, strategic clients and external stakeholders, including the ability to influence, present complex ideas and support commercial growth required
• Prior SVP, executive-level or equivalent leadership experience in business, risk, strategy, actuarial, underwriting, medical, data science or transformation functions preferred
• Deep understanding of biometric risk factors, life and health reinsurance markets, pricing methodologies, capital management and relevant regulatory considerations preferred
• Experience establishing strategic partnerships with technology firms, data providers, academic institutions or other external partners preferred
• Track record of innovation and transformation in data-driven environments, particularly within insurance, reinsurance or health-related sectors preferred
• Strategic leadership and execution across underwriting, claims, medical and biometric risk functions. required
• Biometric, underwriting, claims and medical risk expertise, including mortality, longevity and morbidity risk factors. required
• Commercial judgement and risk-based decision-making, balancing client value, profitability, innovation, risk appetite and regulatory considerations. required
• Stakeholder influence and executive communication, including the ability to present complex risk, technical and commercial concepts clearly. required
• Transformation and operating model leadership, with the ability to provide clear direction and drive execution across regions and functions. required
