About the Role

We are looking for a Regional Director to lead the growth, impact, and operational performance of the B Corp movement in the United States. The immediate focus is scaling and strengthening the B Corp network in the US; the role also oversees the Canadian B Corp community today while building the foundations for an expanded Canadian remit as the organization is ready.

The United States presents a powerful opportunity to convene B Corps at scale — strengthening the community, advancing collective action, and positioning the movement as a credible model for how business leads in challenging times. Realizing this opportunity requires a commercially astute and mission-aligned leader who can engage credibly with senior business leaders, strengthen the relevance and influence of the B Corp movement, and help position purpose-driven business as a practical, trusted force for positive change during a genuinely difficult political period for purpose-driven business, where ESG, DEI, and mission commitments face real scrutiny.

The Regional Director translates B Lab's global strategy into an integrated US (and Canada) market strategy and annual operating plan, leads the market team, and builds high-trust relationships with B Corps, business leaders, and partners so that B Lab's standards, certification, and community offers real value in both countries.

This role will guide the US market through its next phase of growth, impact, and organizational development, building on the commitment and expertise of the existing team and community. The Regional Director will provide clear strategic direction, foster strong collaboration, and support the team in translating B Lab’s priorities into practical, locally relevant plans. They will be accountable for market performance and resource allocation, help remove barriers to delivery, and create the conditions for teams to succeed. The role will also ensure that US and Canadian market insights, opportunities, and needs are well represented across the wider B Lab organization, strengthening alignment and shared learning.

Reporting and Leadership Relationships

  • Reports to: Chief Markets Officer
  • Direct reports: Customer Success & Growth; Programs & Policy; Community; Recertification & Marketing Communications
  • Key internal partnerships: Standards & Certification, Brand & Communications, Community & Movement Building, Partnerships, Policy, Finance, People & Culture, Data/Insights, Operations
  • External relationships: B Corps and prospective B Corps (as accounts and a growth pipeline); US and Canadian business networks and industry associations; ESG/sustainability and procurement leads within B Corp and prospective accounts; funders, investors, and philanthropic partners; policy and regulatory bodies; movement allies
  • As with the Europe market structure, this role occupies a clearly defined place in the leadership architecture, with explicit accountability for market representation, decision rights, and escalation pathways across the US and Canada.

Core Responsibilities

Commercial market strategy, revenue growth, and movement impact — 35%

  • Develop and lead an integrated US market strategy, multi-year roadmap, and annual operating plan, laying the groundwork for a phased expansion into Canada.
  • Set and deliver ambitious, commercially rigorous goals for certification, recertification, and community growth, and proactively identify new segments, products, and revenue streams beyond steady-state management of the existing base.
  • Strengthen the recertification pipeline and reduce churn, treating retention as a leading indicator of market health alongside new certification growth.
  • Shape a coherent approach to market maturity and competitive positioning across the US and Canada, and lead expansion, prioritization, and investment decisions accordingly.
  • Drive sustainable market growth by balancing revenue performance, retention, and a strong, engaged B Corp community, while advancing B Lab’s network priorities and expanding the movement’s reach and impact.

Market leadership, people management, and culture — 25%

  • Lead, coach, and unite a distributed US/Canada team around a shared vision, with clarity of purpose, priorities, and expected outcomes.
  • Navigate organizational change with empathy and strategic clarity, helping the team move through uncertainty with confidence.
  • Establish a high-performing culture combining care, inclusion, accountability, and execution in service of both commercial and mission goals.
  • Build leadership capacity and succession pipelines across the market, addressing capability gaps early in partnership with People & Culture.

Operational excellence, finance, and risk — 20%

  • Own the market operating model and P&L; lead annual planning, budgeting, forecasting, and financial stewardship with Finance, achieving sustainability through disciplined management and diversified revenue.
  • Monitor revenue, expenditure, and delivery risk; make timely calls to protect mission delivery and organizational sustainability.
  • Ensure legal, regulatory, and data-protection compliance, with specialist support, and remove operational bottlenecks affecting companies, community, or internal teams.

Community, stakeholder, and partnership leadership — 15%

  • Serve as a visible, trusted ambassador for B Lab and the B Corp movement across the US and Canada, deepening relationships, strengthening engagement and enhancing the experience and value delivered to B Corps.
  • Build and steward senior relationships with strategic partners, funders, policymakers, and business networks; lead high-value account and renewal conversations in ways that deepen engagement and uphold the integrity of the B Corp community.
  • Champion collective-action initiatives that advance policy and market change beyond individual company certification — strengthening the B Corp community’s shared voice, engagement, and influence.

Performance insights and enterprise contribution — 5%

  • Maintain a concise market dashboard covering growth, revenue, retention, community health, and impact indicators; lead regular performance reviews to recalibrate plans.
  • Share market intelligence and lessons learned across B Lab, and contribute US/Canada perspectives to global strategy and standards development.

About You

  • 10+ years of progressive commercial leadership experience, including accountability for revenue growth, customer retention, and P&L performance within a membership organization, certification body, B2B services business, or similarly complex, mission-driven enterprise.

  • Dynamic people leader: unites teams around a shared vision, navigates difficult conversations, and manages change with care
  • Change leader & adaptive risk manager: leads through organizational transformation, operates effectively in ambiguity, and sustains thoughtful decision-making
  • Cultural translator & bridge-builder: connects global B Lab strategy to market realities
  • Bias for action: makes timely, evidence-based decisions to scale growth and impact

Valuable additions:

  • Prior senior commercial leadership within a US B Corp or mission-led business
  • Track record of new business development and account growth within membership, association, or subscription/renewal-based models
