Railcar Repair Technician

Starting Salary: $46,800/year — higher salary available depending on experience
Position Overview
We are looking for a Railcar Repair Technician with welding and fabrication experience to support railroad equipment maintenance and emergency repair operations. This role involves inspecting, repairing, modifying, and maintaining freight railcars while following railroad safety and quality requirements.
Because this is an emergency-response position, employees must be available for on-call assignments, nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
What You'll Do
Repair and maintain freight railcars using welding and fabrication skills.
Inspect vehicles, tools, equipment, and materials before and after assignments.
Prepare for field work through job briefings and required safety procedures.
Work closely with other team members to complete repairs and assignments.
Maintain a professional working relationship with coworkers and customers.
Keep tools, equipment, and work areas clean, organized, and properly stocked.
Complete required reports and job documentation accurately.
Follow applicable safety rules, procedures, and operating requirements.
Required Skills & Qualifications
AWS welding certification required.
Experience with welding and fabrication.
Knowledge of freight car components and the AAR Field Manual.
Understanding of railroad safety requirements, including Blue Flag Law and FRA standards.
Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
Professional work ethic with a strong commitment to safety.
Ability to read, write, and speak English.
Valid driver's license.
Ability to obtain and maintain required certifications, including CPR, First Aid, E-Rail Safe, and CSX On-Track Safety.
Work Conditions
24/7 emergency-response environment with on-call availability.
Nights, weekends, and holidays may be required.
Frequent travel and changing job locations.
Outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
Physically active position requiring standing, walking on uneven ground, bending, lifting, and carrying.
Ability to regularly lift up to 50 lbs.; heavier items require assistance.
Extended hours may be necessary depending on emergency and operational needs.
