Job Title: R&D Principal Technologist, Product Development

The Job

At AVEVA, we’re looking for an experienced R&D Principal Technologist to join the Predictive Analytics product team. This is a hands-on engineering role focused on building modern, scalable enterprise applications that work with large-scale industrial and time-series datasets and deliver rich, responsive user experiences.

The role requires strong full-stack development expertise with a primary focus on frontend engineering using Angular, TypeScript, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS/SCSS, along with solid experience in C#/.NET, REST APIs, and backend services.

You will design and deliver complex product features across the full stack, contribute to frontend architecture and modernization, and work closely with Product Management, UX, QA, Architecture, and other R&D teams. You will also help establish frontend engineering practices that improve performance, maintainability, usability, and developer productivity.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop modern, responsive, and maintainable web applications using Angular, TypeScript, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS/SCSS.
• Lead the design and implementation of complex frontend features, reusable components, services, and common UI patterns.
• Contribute across the full stack, developing and integrating C#/.NET APIs, services, and backend components as required.
• Design user experiences that remain responsive and performant when working with large datasets, complex visualizations, and data-intensive workflows.
• Identify and resolve frontend performance bottlenecks, including rendering, memory usage, network utilization, data loading, and application responsiveness.
• Apply modern Angular architecture and development practices, including component design, state management, reactive programming, routing, forms, and asynchronous data handling.
• Collaborate closely with UX and Product Management to translate product and usability requirements into intuitive and consistent user experiences.
• Develop reusable UI components and frameworks that improve consistency, maintainability, and development efficiency across the product.
• Integrate frontend applications with REST APIs and backend services, ensuring efficient data transfer, error handling, security, and reliability.
• Champion engineering quality through code reviews, automated testing, secure coding, accessibility, performance optimization, and clean coding practices.
• Contribute to product modernization, technical discovery, prototyping, and evaluation of new frontend technologies and frameworks.
• Mentor engineers and contribute to raising frontend and full-stack engineering capability within the team.

 
Essential Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
• 8+ years of professional software development experience building enterprise web applications.
• Strong hands-on expertise in Angular, TypeScript, JavaScript, HTML5, and CSS/SCSS.
• Strong understanding of Angular architecture, component design, services, dependency injection, routing, reactive programming/RxJS, and modern frontend development patterns.
• Experience designing complex, reusable, and maintainable UI components and frontend frameworks.
• Strong understanding of frontend performance optimization, particularly for applications working with large datasets and data-intensive user interfaces.
• Experience developing responsive, accessible, and cross-browser enterprise applications.
• Good hands-on experience with C#/.NET, REST APIs, and backend service development, with the ability to contribute across the full technology stack.
• Strong understanding of API integration, asynchronous programming, error handling, authentication/authorization, and client-server application architecture.
• Strong understanding of software design principles, clean code, design patterns, automated testing, Git, and CI/CD practices.
• Experience with frontend testing frameworks and approaches covering unit, component, and end-to-end testing.
• Strong problem-solving, debugging, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

 
Desired Skills & Experience

• Experience building data-intensive, analytics-driven, or visualization-heavy enterprise applications.
• Experience optimizing large-data workflows across UI rendering, API calls, pagination, caching, lazy loading, virtualization, and asynchronous processing.
• Experience with modern UI component libraries, data grids, charting/visualization frameworks, and complex interactive controls.
• Experience with frontend architecture, design systems, reusable component libraries, and application modernization.
• Experience with web accessibility, responsive design, localization/internationalization, browser compatibility, and frontend security.
• Experience working with modern authentication and authorization patterns such as OIDC and JWT.
• Familiarity with cloud-native application development, Docker, Kubernetes/AKS, and Azure-based environments.
• Understanding of backend and distributed-system concepts including microservices, asynchronous messaging, caching, and resiliency.
• Strong production-first mindset with experience troubleshooting UI, API, performance, and integration issues in enterprise applications.
• Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot and their responsible use for development, testing, documentation, and engineering productivity.
• Experience with industrial analytics, process data, historian platforms, time-series data, or similar data-intensive products is an advantage.
• Experience working with geographically distributed Agile/Scrum product development teams.

Hybrid working
