Junior Photonic Integrated Circuit (PIC) Development Engineer
Position Purpose
Develop photonic integrated circuit (PIC) solutions for fiber optic sensing (FOS) applications. The role focuses on assessing opportunities for photonic integration within existing sensing systems, designing and simulating PIC-based solutions, and supporting prototype development and fabrication activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop a strong understanding of fiber optic sensing principles and existing FOS instrument architectures.
- Identify functions and subsystems that could benefit from photonic integration.
- Conduct technology and literature surveys on fiber optic sensing, photonic integrated circuits, and their convergence.
- Design, simulate, and optimize PIC-based solutions for sensing applications.
- Build and evaluate prototypes.
- Coordinate fabrication activities and manage interactions with external foundries and suppliers as required.
- Perform numerical simulations and support experimental validation.
- Continuously develop expertise in optics, photonics, waveguide design, semiconductor fabrication, solid-state physics, laser diodes, and related technologies.
Qualifications
- Master's degree (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Photonics, Optical Engineering, or a closely related field.
- Strong interest in photonics, integrated optics, and sensing technologies.
- Experience with numerical simulation tools is desirable.
- Cleanroom experience is an asset.
- Fluent in English; French is an asset.
Experience Level
- Junior / Early Career. Recent graduates with a strong academic background are encouraged to apply.
